If true I’d love to know how it ended up there! I’m sure they’ve been held at San Diego before.Zootierliste notes that Seaworld Orlando is the lone holder of elephant seal(s) in North America, though I have never heard of them having one. Does anyone know if they may be caring for one behind the scenes?

San Diego rescued one and then sent her to Orlando last year after she couldn't be released. She is a Northern Elephant Seal I believe.Zootierliste notes that Seaworld Orlando is the lone holder of elephant seal(s) in North America, though I have never heard of them having one. Presumably they had the space to accommodate her off display (and San Diego didn't).I wonder what the intention behind this transfer is. Why sent a rescued animal from its natural environment (or rather: clima) to the wet subtropics of Florida?
It died in August. What happened to the elephant seal in Pittsburg?
Interesting question, they had two, one died in August 2024, but I don't know about the other one. What happened to the elephant seal in Pittsburg?
Ellie Mae died in August last year, but do you know about the whereabouts of Nessie? It died in August.
I didn’t realize they had two, I thought that was their last one. Most recent USDA report is too old to shed any light on their current inventory.Ellie Mae died in August last year, but do you know about the whereabouts of Nessie?

They have a single individual BTS, I have heard of people that have been able to see her when they do a BTS tour. There was a rumor that they were trying to train her for the sealion and otter show....but I don't know if that is really true.
I believe due to being outdated for staff/public and budgeting, other explained it better in the San Diego thread. Is there a reason given for the transfer?
