Some (relatively) small news I bring

- The Pangolin Trail has been delayed (as I believe many of us have noticed). The current opening plan now from what I'm aware of is either the end of July or even all the way til August

- Nuwa, the Sri Lankan Leopard in the Singapore Zoo is planned to be moved to Night Safari pretty soon apparently. I was told that this move can be as recent as the end of July.

From what I've heard it's due to some manufacturer based reasoning. Probably still some things in the works with the enclosures

I've only had a few peeks into the trails (ahem through walking past the Fishing Cat Trail and a peek into the Otter enclosure by the temporary curtain and wooden frame) and it seems like the enclosures are already mostly finished. So likely it's just some final touch-ups before our folks get the green light to prepare our residents
 
Some quick updates

On what @Nadchew_ said, the Nile Lechwes are indeed on display.

The Pangolin Trail meanwhile is going to be in its delay for quite a while, from what I managed to get earliest timing for its opening would be August.

And very little things regarding the trail. The exhibit boards for what looks like the Otter exhibit is no longer covered and some glowing directional signboards can also be seen when you're by the South American enclosure in the Fishing Cat Trail.

The sign says Otter and Lion Lookout to the Left while it says Pangolin to the right. Sadly the text is only in English, excluding the Mandarin and Japanese variants

So I'm back with the news (and some even more exciting extras)

So with the main news, more than likely Anggun do be gone. The keepers I asked have never worked with him before so he's definitely gone from the collection. Whether he is dead or exported I will probably have to ask a senior keeper.


Now onto the other news I managed to collect: WARNING - MUCHO TEXTO

The other 2 female Pangolins aside from Nita are named Gambi and Bawang, Bawang is apparently the newest Pangolin in the collection and she is a rescued one.


Now some news on the Pangolin Trail once again:

1. Personal Observation with me spotting 2 signboards by what looks like the Otter enclosure, which seems a bit interesting since with our new signboards being only in English I'm not sure what a 2nd one is for.

Potentially meaning that it's a sponsor board like the new board by Chawang or more likely, another Animal species (If it's the Binturong again watch our people bring forth the end like Armageddon Vertus in Animal Kaiser lmao)


2. From a talk I had with a keeper. The male Mousedeer that lived with the Southern Red Muntjac in the FCT is currently in the back house and will be living in the 1st Pangolin enclosure in the Trail

The most shocking news from them however, is apparently there are also plans to mix the Sunda Slow Loris and even the Spotted Giant Flying Squirrel together in that same enclosure with them.

Obviously with the Slow Loris being venomous, they're still testing this with Animal training and conditioning.

Honestly, this news so far makes the Pangolin Trail even more promising and I'll be looking forward to what Mandai is cooking. We have never been so back

Hope the flying squirrel really does return, never got to see them before but if it works out, it'll be easier to spot them. Mandai has been on a W train lately with Tazzies, a kiwi, Bird Paradise, Rainforest Wild getting okapis and the new sea lion exhibit.

With common palm civets and small-toothed palm civets getting another enclosure in Pangolin Trail along with the enclosure that used to have the leopard cats and pangolin, hope they have some different species at the backhouse to put into those enclosures as there now are way too many binturong/civet enclosures

Also, mind if I ask but do you work at Night Safari?

Agreed. It's been so long since we had the Giant Flying Squirrels that I can't remember if I ever saw them. Sad it isn't the Red and Whites but any Giant Flying Squirrel in general is better than none.

Though since we currently only have 1 Spotted Giant Flying Squirrel in the back house, it potentially could be phased out after its death like say our Humboldt Penguins. But if things go well and say we get more, we'll be absolutely back

Trials to mix the Pangolins with Sunda Slow Loris have already started. Hope it works out. Happy to hear that the Spotted Flying Squirrel might return to display.

Regarding the phasing out of the Giant Flying Squirrels, the former VP of Animal Care Dr Luis said that the captive population was not sustainable as too few zoos were keeping them. The Red and White Giant Flying Squirrels that Night Safari had were imported from China and their origins were questionable. Some European zoos have started keeping this species. If it works out, they might one day return to Mandai. I'm lucky (and old) enough to have experienced the Giant Flying Squirrel walk-thru habitat in its prime and it was an unforgettable experience seeing cat-sized squirrels launch from highest point of the enclosure and glide over your head.

I'm surprised it's already started testing, but with me just spotting the Barn Owl already in its enclosure, I suppose I can't be too surprised. Wishing this well alongside the Squirrel too.

I was only aware of one zoo having that species, that being Tierpark Berlin so it's nice to hear that other zoos also have the species.

A shame I was a wee little lad then so I've forgotten if I've even seen them and even if I did I couldn't appreciate them as I would've nowadays. But hey, like ya said, hoping things work out well so someday it'll be possible to see them here again

Til then, we'll be waiting for the chance for our last Giant Flying Squirrel to show
