Small updates from today's visit

  • Alligator snapping turtles are phased out with their tank now holding pig-nosed turtles
  • The Reptopia aviary is still closed for refurbishment as are many other exhibits including the panther chameleon and Fiji banded iguana exhibits
  • Reticulated pythons are now in the former mangrove snake tank by the Komodo dragons

notable updates from today's trip:

1. the manatees from Forest Lodge arent there anymore. are they in River Wonders now?

2. i noticed the info sign for the chinese alligators are missing and i couldnt see any animals. does this mean anything?

3. (*may be wrong*)i didnt see any birds or their info signs in Tortoise Shell-ter(eg. wattled starling*), except for common green magpie

4. Rainforest Kidzworld has finally closed its doors after 15 years

The Manatees that were at Forest Lodge have been exported I believe.

The Chinese Alligators should still be in the enclosure (they have not left the collection at least).

The only birds in Tortoise Shellter are a single Wattled Starling and a single Blue-spotted Wood Dove. All other birds have either died out or moved to Bird Paradise.

And yes Rainforest KidzWorld closed today. The new KidzWorld should open in a couple of weeks time.

Any idea what’s being built / renovated in the Primate Kingdom - between the islands for Colobus and De Brazza’s monkeys?

Is it meant for L'Hoest's monkey? I could only see Colobus monkeys in the island but no L’Hoest’s.

And are there still Javan Langurs free-roaming around the area?

A back of house facility is being built.

There's only one L'Hoest's Monkey left and she is off show.

There are still free ranging Javan Langurs, but only a small group of 2 or 3 I believe.

what happened to the other L'Hoest? did she die or get exported?

It’s really sad to hear that. No plan to re-acquire L’ Hoest’s?

As for the langurs, any particular spots to find them? :)

The new Kidzworld has recently opened, new features not present in the original include a dry playground and a petting area for their rescued dogs and cats
KidzWorld

Now here's to hoping they do something good with the former Rainforest Kidzworld and Frozen Tundra

One of the Chinese Alligators was moved to reptopia.

Since the manatees are now absent from the pond, it would be great if the glass barriers could be removed. I do miss sitting by the pond without obstructions in the way.

And the collection in there is already pretty remarkable, with fully-grown blue mahseer, some of the largest red-tailed golden arowanas I've seen, ornate & leucistic alligator gars and bulky pig-nosed turtles.

Do you have a species list for the Forest Lodge pond? Also remember seeing pacu and catfish in it

Too many to name. I'm aware that it has sort of become a dumping ground for most of the 'additional' large fish in the collection. Of course there are the ubiquitous ones like redtail cats, pacus / tambaqui, fei feng, kong ming, etc.

I remember a few medium motoro rays in the past too, but those have most likely been transferred to either the River Safari / Fragile Forest.

Always found it humorous that the manatees were introduced there, considering it was historically an ornamental koi pond during the 2000s.

Friends and I joked that river dolphins or possibly even an Orca calf would replace them once they were gone.

Where is this forest lodge pond? I don't remember seeing it when I visited the zoo.
