While it is nice to see maned wolves get some recognition, I hope this canine won’t end up compromising the chances of other animals too much. Of the three major zoos in Bavaria (Nürnberg, Hellabrunn, Augsburg) all of them had maned wolves.

The exhibit is across from the mountain lions, near the top of the zoo. That part of the zoo can get extremely hectic with the narrow sidewalks, skyfari, 4D theater and the bus tour running right through the area, so it's definitely possible to overlook the exhibit.

I didn’t take a photo of the sign or anything but I can confirm that the San Diego Zoo labels the species on the sign as Maned “Wolf”.They are not technically wolves or foxes, but I've seen Maned Wolves in 38 zoos. These long-legged mammals are fascinating to have in zoos as quite often it's possible to smell them before seeing them. They are stinky beasts!

One imagines Maned Wolves being surrounded by tall pampas grass in the wild, but that was certainly not the case at Montgomery Zoo (USA) in 2010:
This spacious yard had Maned Wolves and Giant Anteaters together at Audubon Zoo (USA) in 2010:
I was shocked to see the Maned Wolf exhibit at John Ball Zoo (USA) when I was first there in 2012. It was more like a Snow Leopard enclosure! The small rocky island on the left was home to Saki Monkeys at that time, and you can see a Maned Wolf scaling the heights in its bizarre cage on the right.

Sunset Zoo (USA) is yet another zoo that combines Maned Wolves and Giant Anteaters together in the same exhibit. That combination obviously works.

Lee Richardson Zoo (USA) has had Maned Wolves for years. It's surprising to see just how flat many of these enclosures are, with no rolling terrain anywhere.

I have only visited two zoos in France but both had Maned Wolves. Lille Zoo (France) combined Maned Wolves, Lowland Tapirs and Capybaras all together in a spacious yard.
And at Maubeuge Zoo (France), Maned Wolves had minimal electric fencing that separated them from a pool full of turtles.

Osnabruck Zoo (Germany) has an exhibit for Maned Wolves:
Predictably, a Swedish zoo has a massive Maned Wolf exhibit that contains a small lake in the middle. Parken Zoo (Sweden):
And Nordens Ark (Sweden) is just as impressive, with their Maned Wolf exhibit containing a meadow section and a forested area. It is one of very few zoos I've visited where there is a glass viewing area to see Maned Wolves. You can see two people watching a wolf in my 2022 photo:

I suppose that my answer is zero, as I asked the question earlier on this thread and no one replied in the affirmative. I will take off Eastern Wolf, but I figured that out of 129 zoos with 'Wolves', there had to be 1 with the species. Ha!

A few years ago, we used to have Coyotes in our backyard, with the occasional howling waking us up in the night. We'd pull up the driveway and there would be a Coyote hanging out by the side of the house and we only ever saw one at a time even though you could hear pups at certain times of the year. We live in an urban neighbourhood, but with a large forested greenbelt behind the house. I would keep track and we saw Coyotes on our property on 14 occasions, but then they suddenly moved away and it's been a few years of nothing. They are interesting mammals as they can be quite boisterous and social, but are solitary when seen along highways in southern Canada. I've had numerous sightings of wild Coyotes in my lifetime and I don't think I've ever actually seen more than a single animal at a time.
As for this thread, I've seen Coyotes in 49 zoos. How many have I seen in Europe? A big fat zero.

Here, the innovative use of 'Invisinet' allows Coyotes to seem as if they are wandering around in the wild and visitors have to do a double take to ensure that the Coyotes are legitimately in captivity. There are two Coyotes in this photo:

I've also seen wild Coyotes on a number of occasions, and I agree they are pretty much always solitary. However, I'll never forget the one instance I saw two together - running around on the ice a couple miles out on a frozen section of Lake Michigan!A few years ago, we used to have Coyotes in our backyard, with the occasional howling waking us up in the night. We'd pull up the driveway and there would be a Coyote hanging out by the side of the house and we only ever saw one at a time even though you could hear pups at certain times of the year. We live in an urban neighbourhood, but with a large forested greenbelt behind the house. I would keep track and we saw Coyotes on our property on 14 occasions, but then they suddenly moved away and it's been a few years of nothing. They are interesting mammals as they can be quite boisterous and social, but are solitary when seen along highways in southern Canada. I've had numerous sightings of wild Coyotes in my lifetime and I don't think I've ever actually seen more than a single animal at a time.
As for this thread, I've seen Coyotes in 49 zoos. How many have I seen in Europe? A big fat zero.

Northwest Trek Wildlife Park (USA) has had several stunning exhibits over the years, but they phased out Coyotes and replaced them with Wolverines. Here's the slice of forest when it held Coyotes:
Equally famous, but for a completely different environment, is the Coyote exhibit at Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum (USA). Here, the innovative use of 'Invisinet' allows Coyotes to seem as if they are wandering around in the wild and visitors have to do a double take to ensure that the Coyotes are legitimately in captivity. There are two Coyotes in this photo:

Not nearly on the level of the first two examples, but still very nice, is the Coyote exhibit at Phoenix Zoo (USA):
In 2012, Naples Zoo (USA) had 4 Coyotes in the same space as a dog! Here's a photo with 2 Coyotes and their peer:
I remember being really impressed with the Coyote exhibit at Pocatello Zoo (USA), now known as Zoo Idaho. There's a rear fence set far back from the viewing area and it sort of melts into the environment.
Quite a few American zoos have Coyotes in big, chain-link yards, such as Dakota Zoo (USA):
Wildlife Prairie Park (USA), the Northwest Trek of Illinois, has a spacious, lush Coyote exhibit:
Alameda Park Zoo (USA) has had Coyotes for years:

Later on this same day, this exact large chunk of ice (with a number of fisherman on it!) broke off and drifted away. The people had to be rescued by a nearby container ship. I never heard if these Coyotes were still on the ice at that time, but I sure wouldn't want to be stuck on an ice flow with a pair of Coyotes!

From Wolves to Coyotes to Foxes! I've seen Red Foxes at 75 zoos. There's plenty of subspecies to be found, including many labeled as 'Silver' Foxes that are simply colour variations of the traditional-looking Red Fox.
These 3 summers saw me visit a lot of privately-owned, roadside American zoos and I saw a TON of Red Foxes on those road trips.

In 2008, Oklahoma City Zoo (USA) had American Black Bears and Red Foxes in the same exhibit, in the Oklahoma Trails section of the zoo.
In 2011, California Living Museum (USA) had the exact same combination:
I've visited Northwest Trek Wildlife Park (USA) on several occasions and attempting to locate Red Foxes there is a tough task. I first saw the species at this Washington state zoo in 2005.
Caldwell Zoo (USA) has a very rocky Red Fox exhibit that looks more suited to Rock Hyrax:

There's a Red Fox looking down on its bleak existence at Wild Wilderness Drive-Through Safari (USA). There's a tiny bit of grass in this enclosure, and the height is great, but Red Foxes are surprisingly large canines when seen up close and they need a meadow or forested environment to replicate what they experience in nature.
Just a casual glance through the ZooChat gallery reveals that when a canine is given a little bit of height in their enclosure, then they utilize that space. Assiniboine Park Zoo (Canada) has a Red Fox exhibit that's nothing fancy, but that one raised ledge can be seen in this photo and sure enough a fox is on top of it.
Here's a Red Fox enclosure with a boring, sterile lower section, but the raised walkway around the cage at least offers up a second level for the inhabitant. This photo was taken at Folsom City Zoo Sanctuary (USA):
Shalom Wildlife Zoo (USA) keeps its Red Foxes in a corn-crib cage. Good grief! The diameter of this rusty old cage is probably 9 feet.
Shalom's is arguably better than this small cage, with its crappy old car tire in the middle, holding two Red Foxes at West Coast Game Park Safari (USA). I recall the one fox running around and around, pacing incessantly throughout its tiny environment.
Wildlife World Zoo, Aquarium & Safari Park (USA) has a Red Fox exhibit that's not very large and the baking temperatures in Arizona means that the foxes likely spend a great deal of time indoors. You can see two Red Foxes in that interior zone, with poles disguised as trees and a cement floor. At least it's very cool in there!

One of the worst Canid exhibits I've ever seen was for a Red fox, and also at Alexandria Zoo (albeit the one in Egypt). They keep two individuals of the local subspecies in a tiny cage that is probably no more than 2.5m by 2m.
Red fox is a species I've only seen at two zoos- once at a roadside zoo and once at a decent, albeit small, AZA-accredited facility. That said, it doesn't surprise me that it's a species you'd encounter a lot, especially considering how widespread its distribution is.From Wolves to Coyotes to Foxes! I've seen Red Foxes at 75 zoos. There's plenty of subspecies to be found, including many labeled as 'Silver' Foxes that are simply colour variations of the traditional-looking Red Fox.
These 3 summers saw me visit a lot of privately-owned, roadside American zoos and I saw a TON of Red Foxes on those road trips.

In 2008, Oklahoma City Zoo (USA) had American Black Bears and Red Foxes in the same exhibit, in the Oklahoma Trails section of the zoo.
In 2011, California Living Museum (USA) had the exact same combination:
I've visited Northwest Trek Wildlife Park (USA) on several occasions and attempting to locate Red Foxes there is a tough task. I first saw the species at this Washington state zoo in 2005.
Caldwell Zoo (USA) has a very rocky Red Fox exhibit that looks more suited to Rock Hyrax:
There's been many subpar Red Fox exhibits in U.S. zoos, such as this one at DeYoung Family Zoo (USA). The sign says 'Silver Fox' and you can see the animal perched upon the one and only tree stump in the tiny cage:

Alexandria Zoo (USA) is a pretty decent medium-sized zoo, but this Red Fox cage offers little in the way of enrichment or space.
There's a Red Fox looking down on its bleak existence at Wild Wilderness Drive-Through Safari (USA). There's a tiny bit of grass in this enclosure, and the height is great, but Red Foxes are surprisingly large canines when seen up close and they need a meadow or forested environment to replicate what they experience in nature.
Just a casual glance through the ZooChat gallery reveals that when a canine is given a little bit of height in their enclosure, then they utilize that space. Assiniboine Park Zoo (Canada) has a Red Fox exhibit that's nothing fancy, but that one raised ledge can be seen in this photo and sure enough a fox is on top of it.
Here's a Red Fox enclosure with a boring, sterile lower section, but the raised walkway around the cage at least offers up a second level for the inhabitant. This photo was taken at Folsom City Zoo Sanctuary (USA):
Shalom Wildlife Zoo (USA) keeps its Red Foxes in a corn-crib cage. Good grief! The diameter of this rusty old cage is probably 9 feet.
Shalom's is arguably better than this small cage, with its crappy old car tire in the middle, holding two Red Foxes at West Coast Game Park Safari (USA). I recall the one fox running around and around, pacing incessantly throughout its tiny environment.
Wildlife World Zoo, Aquarium & Safari Park (USA) has a Red Fox exhibit that's not very large and the baking temperatures in Arizona means that the foxes likely spend a great deal of time indoors. You can see two Red Foxes in that interior zone, with poles disguised as trees and a cement floor. At least it's very cool in there!
The outdoor cage is puny:
So, once again, we head off to Europe to find the good exhibits. Scandinavian Wildlife Park (Denmark) has a very large Red Fox enclosure, with a meadow foreground, forested background and even some rocky boulders towards the rear of the exhibit.
It's a simple metal cage that likely held big cats at one time, but this Red Fox exhibit is arguably miles better than so many of the American examples I've provided. This enclosure can be found at Tiergarten Monchengladbach (Germany):
Olderdissen Zoo (Germany), listed as Heimat-Tierpark Olderdissen in the gallery, has a fantastic Red Fox exhibit. This is what we all want to see! It's not just for Red Foxes though, as they share their spacious habitat with Brown Bears.

I've seen Arctic Foxes at 49 zoos, the exact same number as Coyotes. Interestingly enough, the Aquarium of the Pacific (USA) had a special Arctic-themed temporary exhibit when I was there in 2011, including Arctic Foxes.

As part of its almost $100 million (Canadian) Journey to Churchill complex at Assiniboine Park Zoo (Canada), there's an Arctic Fox exhibit with glass viewing.
Point Defiance Zoo (USA) has had Arctic Foxes next to their Polar Bear exhibit for 40 years.
For several years, Woodland Park Zoo (USA) actually had two Arctic Foxes in with their small herd of Rocky Mountain Goats. In this photo, you can see a bundle of white fur that was one of the foxes, and just a couple of feet to the right is a bundle of bluish-grey fur that was the other specimen. They would hang out together and avoid the goats on the steep slopes.

As part of its almost $100 million (Canadian) Journey to Churchill complex at Assiniboine Park Zoo (Canada), there's an Arctic Fox exhibit with glass viewing.
Point Defiance Zoo (USA) has had Arctic Foxes next to their Polar Bear exhibit for 40 years.
For several years, Woodland Park Zoo (USA) actually had two Arctic Foxes in with their small herd of Rocky Mountain Goats. In this photo, you can see a bundle of white fur that was one of the foxes, and just a couple of feet to the right is a bundle of bluish-grey fur that was the other specimen. They would hang out together and avoid the goats on the steep slopes.

Como Park Zoo (USA), somewhat inexplicably, had Arctic Foxes near the hoofstock area when I visited in 2014:

Washington Park Zoo (USA) had Arctic Foxes in a 1930s-era enclosure. It's a wonderful historic section of this zoo, but not appropriate for canines. Maybe it was an aviary at one point in time.
These are rare ARTIC Foxes, found only at Wisconsin's Animal Haven Zoo (USA). They are a rare subspecies that lost their 'C's' years ago.
Wildlife World Zoo, Aquarium & Safari Park (USA) has an Arctic Fox enclosure that is the same general size as its Red Fox exhibit, meaning that it's puny and an inappropriate amount of space for the species. The indoors is heavily themed and air-conditioned, but with a cement floor.

Kristiansand Zoo (Norway) might well have the best Arctic Fox exhibit I've ever seen and I was able to spot a specimen due to its white coat. In the middle of a Norwegian winter, that would be much more difficult!
