So How About the Weather....

I went to the Australian Open yesterday, in Melbourne, so that was very warm! Was a great day though, just the oppressive heat wasn't much fun.

Unfortunately our house doesn't have air conditioning, so its hard to get it to a temperature different to what's outside. It's only dropped below 30C inside in the last hour...

Today will definitely be a beach day!

The beach? Ha! Back in my day "we didn't have sunscreen, and on 40C days we had to sit on tarmac with typewriters to get our theses done. Beach? We used to dream of the beach. Airconditioning? Luxury! But if you tell kids that today, they wouldn't believe you." :p

So we've had several days of 80 degree weather with more to come here in the LA area, but today (1/15/14) we've had several good sized earthquakes. At 1:35 am we had a 4.4 magnitude and about 20 minutes ago we had a 3.8 magnitude earthquake. Normally these small earthquakes get overlooked by Californians as we have felt larger quakes, but the epicenter of the 4.4 one was about a mile from my house, so I definitely felt that one. My house shook hard and my pets got really freaked out. I just hope these little ones trigger a much bigger one just days before the 20th anniversary of the Northridge earthquake.

You you hope it doesn't, right? Or you mean you prefer it triggers a bigger one to release some stress so you don't get a monster quake?

I live fairly far north in Canada, and it has been a very interesting winter thus far.

Just days ago it was snowing and -35C, and today it was 8 degrees and sunny out. Its been horribly wishy washy for weather this year. Makes the roads horrible too. Icy all the time.

Here at Madagascar the rainy season seems to have begun on the east coast. It is now already a week that we get heavy rains every day. This also means that the temperature has dropped, from 38 degrees to 25 when it's rainy and I never thought I would find 25 degrees pretty cold :p but I am not used anymore to temperate days. This morning it was again such a crazy tropical rain, but now it is actually sunny and about 30 degrees with a nice breeze.

30C, sunny, and with a nice sea breeze sounds
quite pleasant indeed!

We had a just one day this week at 34C, while the other days were pleasant in the mid 20s.

Every day next week is over 30C, with about 3 days being over 38C.

Raining again It has rained virtually every day this year which even for the UK is unusual
At about 16.30 yesterday afternoon it started to get dark it went as black as night then poured with rain and thundered and lightning for about 5 minutes with a very Strong gale rather like a mini tornado it tore part of our fence down, Then it stopped and lightened up again but it rained most of the night and is doing so again
now. below is a link to our weather if it works.
UK weather: flood warnings as further heavy rain expected to lash Britain - Telegraph

My area keeps getting blasted with snow and none of it is melting away or compacting down. So far this year we have gotten 75"/1.9 meters of snow.

The snow has gotten to the point in Michigan where there is enough snow that this weekend I was able to sled off the roof of my house.

And in the UK we have had no snow this year (apart from the Highlands etc,). Virtually no frosty days, just rain, rain, rain. I live in NW England (nr Liverpool) and it was very windy, a fence panel had broken in the night and on the commute to work there was speed restrictions on the motorways due to the strong winds.

I'm just getting fed up with rain, rain and more rain in the UK, flooded roads trees across roads. I feel sorry for all the people in Somerset flooded out completely, no house and it will be months before they are back into their homes.

Interesting to see all the weather going on around the rest of the world though!

Well, seeing as nanoboy is MIA atm, I will update the Melbourne weather situation.

Basically its very hot. In fact, the last 30 days has been the hottest 30 day period in the city's recorded history, with an average daily maximum of 31.5C. The past weekend has also seen the worst fire conditions since Black Saturday five years ago, although the results so far have been much less severe, with no deaths or serious injuries, and only a handful of homes lost on the fringes of the city. Also there is an open cast coal mine on fire, which I imagine will be very difficult to extinguish. Rain is expected later in the week and this weekend, which should help the situation.

What's the weather like in East USA? According to the news, you guys shut down everything for a centimetre of snow. :p

In my area (outside New York City) it snowed for about 11 hours leaving 30cm of snow... then it turned to freezing rain and sleet...later back to snow. Awful driving conditions.
But in the South it has been snow with an ice storm. Those areas do not have the resources to deal with such weather.
