About once per decade.
When was the last snow event before this one?
About once per decade.
In The Upper Peninsula where my dad lives they just had a big 2 day blizzard. Here are some pics that keep getting shared on facebook(the Once a Yooper, Always a Yooper page) that are from near where he works. I bet Arizona Docent wishes he could have gotten pictures of this!![]()
Northland, the upper region of the North Island, has been declared a drought zone, and is looking very dry. Two other North Island regions (Waikato & Hawke's Bay) are also close to being declared drought zones. This is a photo from my parent's house (where I grew up and am currently staying) showing a very brown valley (drier than I have ever seen it). I realise this is nothing like an Aussie drought, but its pretty dry for NZ. There is no decent rain forecast for several more weeks.
That's a really beautiful view, but I must point out that that's how the Aussie countryside looks in the best of times! Melbourne gets only 600mm of rain a year.
By the time you get here, the grass will be green again and the billabongs will be much fuller than they have been in months.
Oh wow! Those are some amazing pics. What's the weather like now, and what's the snow depth like?
In the last 2-3 days, we received more than 50mm of rain, which is fantastic. My lawn just might become green again.
Yesterday we got another 4-6 inches of heavy snow which would have been double the amount if it was light and fluffy. If it was rain that would be approximately an 1 inch/100 mm.

An inch is 25 mm, not 100 mm.
There are a few jokes I can make about that, but I'll be nice.![]()
I'm not having a very good time at the moment, my brain has been very confused. I'm claiming temporary insanity bought on by illness.
I'm getting there.![]()
