So How About the Weather....

Since we are now leaving the snow behind us (knock on wood), the national weather service has anounced the snow fall totals for the Upper Peninsula. Two spots in the Keewenaw Peninsula tied thisyear for most snow with a grand total of (drum roll please) ........................................................................... 341 inches/8.7 meters of snow!

Very cool. Is there any snow on the ground at the moment? Is there any ice remaining on the Great Lakes?

So, who's digging out the snow at the moment? That snow storm looks to be of epic proportions! Anyone have any pics to post?

We haven't any snow, but so far this year we have had 30 inches of rain and locally our
yearly average is 18-20 everything is very wet again.

I had a very small amount of snow fall in Warsaw, Poland today. It is the first time that I have seen snow fall. I have seen it on the ground in a couple of places that I have been on holiday though.
:)

That sounds strange to some one like me who has seen snow on and off all their lives, what did it feel like to see it fall I love watching snow fall it is so mesmerizing.

It was pretty cool actually. Quite exciting :). I remember seing snow in Kenya, Italy, Germany, Morocco and Iceland but not much call for snow in Thailand or Saudi Arabia which are the two other places that I have lived.

More or less same post above: anyone here in the firing line for the big snowstorm in NE USA? They are calling it the blizzard of 2015, with 2-3 feet (and a possible new record) for Central Park.

I am, I found out it was coming yesterday and have spent much of the time since then planning for it. This morning I picked up sand, apples, and gassed up my car in a gas station full of elderly people who were unfortunately rude drivers. The NOAA Weather Band told me to get home by noon, and I did. Now I am not planning to go out unless it is important as it has started where I am (Windham County CT). Its only just starting, but the visibility is starting to deteriorate ever so slightly. And once it really sets in I am not going out for anything other than a life or death emergency. That means I am not going anywhere tomorrow, at least by car. It will be shanks mare or nowhere I say. Most likely nowhere.

Be safe! Post some before and after pics if you can.

I wouldn't mind some cold weather. It was over 50 degrees here. In Wyoming. In January. And people deny climate change.

A quick update. Last night I went outside to shovel (because that's what you have to do to stay on top of things in this weather) and all of a sudden it was snowing sideways. I took that as a sign I ought to go inside. Also, I woke up this morning and saw that my window was white. I initially thought there was a whiteout but it turned out it was two feet of snow piled on my roof. Also, our Dark Eyed Juncos are so puffed I I initially mistook them for another species. They have refused to leave the feeder area. Now if you will excuse me I need to go shovel.

Pics man, pics needed!

I understand that it still wasn't as bad as predicted, which is great for you folks.

Depends on where you live. It wasn't as bad down here but still was really bad for people further North.

You are closer to New York City right? I'm closer to Boston on the far side of Hartford (and getting to Hartford is a trek), and we got pounded from late last night on. I have at least a yard on the ground, possibly more. If I can find my yardstick I'll go out and check, failing that I'll find some other way of measuring it. I spent more than three hours shoveling today when I felt safe going outside (even with no wind the tree branches can fall, I was nearly killed by a falling branch once). Since yesterday I have spent almost six hours shoveling, thank goodness for back saver shovels.
