Dave Gill is still removing comments from his park's FB page, as some folk have been posting that they will not return or they have found the publicity to be shocking. By only having comments which gloat his ego, then his ego grows even bigger...

@ dublinlion.....Then maybe you should make yourself aware of Gill's bullying tactics, and how his insane fans rally round and go for the jugular if anyone dares to speak against him.;)

I've had a load of extremely threatening personal emails for the man himself once his remarks became too controversially personal for public display on his ridiculous Facebook page!

I too have had many abusive and hateful emails from Mr Gill, all of which were seen by the Police who advised me to make a criminal complaint. I also see from other zoo forums and FB sites that he also posts some abusive rants, especially regarding those who he sees as going against him, from the council to councilors, from zoo staff to members of the public. I also take note that the reptile handling is done so with a disregard to rules; from handling without care and due attention outside, to the handling of giant millipedes (rules have changed regarding that one as people have or could have a reaction (from contact dermatitis to anaphylaxis) to the iodine. I am all for functional zoos and collections but I am 100% against dysfunctional ones.

I remember he once called everyone on ZooChat a zoophile on his Facebook:p

~Thylo:cool:

I couldn't care less what the man does. He is a disgrace to the zoo profession and lacks empathy for those that beg to differ on opinion as well as in substance. That is lack of maturity for you.

BTW: nice to know the jaguars cubs seem to be doing well.

Seems to me there is a lot of this about.

As a neutral I can see little substance in any of this and remain to be convinced that this is anything other than a witch hunt.
I have a vision of immature men typing away with steam coming out of their ears, and the apparent support from the members, sending them to a frenzy of pasting daft press cuttings and namecalling. (its all funny and silly) Get your partner or some neutral person to read this thread and I am sure most will see my point of view.
No wonder PETA. et al. are winning the propaganda war.. I'm almost tempted to join up.

As a neutral.

hmmmm....I'm not so sure you are.

A simple search through the gallery section on this site provides enough damning evidence...the pics of the cat dens alone are bad enough, let alone the obvious dangers to the public also.

...or are you blind to all that and a fully paid up member of the Gill brown-nosing club? Come on now, you can tell us;););)

I rarely comment on this thread as it hardly has any news items on the zoo per se and has turned more into a discussion forum of the exploits of their zoo manager. In that, I can see your point.

However, the overall message coming through here I do agree with. Surely, I am not immune nor blind to the various exploits of said Mr. David Gill in his wildlife park that are a contradiction of management and husbandry practice in a conventional wildlife park. For me, this pertains to avoidable losses of wild animals, their husbandry practice with unsafe exhibitry and rather "dangerous" wildlife combos, the procedural lapses - that I have never seen from any top quality zoo in the zoo industry - and frequent incidences of wild animals escapes.

Secondly, to then cut and paste my short observation of what was aimed at said Mr. Gill notion of Zoochat as zoophiloos and to take that as a model to go on a charade over perceived immaturity on this forum, is taking it a little too far methinks and as such is a misrepresentation of what I was trying to get across.

Thirdly, to then claim to take the high ground, that people here are on a witch hunt of sorts … - I am most certainly not - and be a neutral is hardly what has been showing from your participation in this particular thread. So, please spare me the lambasting of others that occasionally do comment here.

Finally and most importantly, I very much value a good discussion on zoo matters and I am open to do so and recognize / accept we may care to differ on opinions. That is fine by me. And for what it is worth, I am rather mature both in age, mind and body … thank you very much.

May I suggest you do a search for any posts on this forum by a user called Yorik! You will find they only appear to post on the superb SLWAP part of the forum!

A very fair minded response, And with words very well chosen by somebody who isn't a Brit.

As another non Brit, I would just like to debate the definition of fairness .

But, in fairness, I would normally regard Kifaru and yourself as among my favourite posters/writers. Can't agree on everything though.

Forget the conspiracy theories, no connection. More chance of you being a Yorick/whatever than me. The clue is I aint English. Yorick indeed lol.

You don't have to be English to be a fan of SLWAP :p

I have no desire to let a difference in opinion with strangers overly annoy me, and my only agenda is that I like to debate and stand up for the bullied.

I would argue that in this case 'the bullied' are, with increasing seriousness, those who have had their comment deleted on Facebook for disagreeing with Gill or attempting to memorialise the deceased, the animals who have suffered as a result of his mismanagement, and above all the staff who have suffered indignity (remember this delightful story? Zoo boss 'told worker to end her pregnancy' - Telegraph ), injury and (tragically) worse in his employ.

He generates a lot of cash for conservation, I'm sure, and South Lakes is far from being the worst zoo in the world without a doubt. But neither of those facts give the man a free pass to act how he likes without being called out on it.

No arguement from me re. this comment, as there is some balance.

I already see that someone else has distaste of Dave Gill and his park:
https://www.facebook.com/boycottswalp

And whilst reading the comments on another site, then it seems that zoo keepers are not the only people who are peeved off by the rants and fibs of Dave Gill.

I see that we have a new website from Dave Gill, strangaly though, the website is breaking the law by breaching both the Equality Act and the Disability Discrimination Act. Where under the Goods and Services part of both Acts, that all websites must adhere to and that colour, text and font size, shapes and visual means along with methods for both deaf and visually impaired must be able to have access to. This website fails on all accounts, thus he can be taken to court and the fines levied carry no limits. But does the man care? Not really as the Police were investigating the man for his comments regarding gay people and other groups...so one is not surprised that he flouts the law.... http://southlakessafarizoo.com/

It's Ok to criticize to a level, but this thread has become a bit too personal and is for that reason now closed: Worth remembering this is Zoochat and not the we don't like Mr.Gill forum...
