In addition to the species listed by @Onychorhynchus coronatus , I can add :
- Emperor penguin : appart from the one in San Diego, from what I know the only other ones in captivity are in Japan
Several Chinese aquariums keep Emperor penguins.
In addition to the species listed by @Onychorhynchus coronatus , I can add :
- Japanese serow ; now that the one in Usti died I believe the only ones remaining are in Japan
Acquired through the Pet trade? (Are they in there as well as Moholi B-Babies and Senegal B-Babies? )It is just such an odd species to be in a Japanese zoo...very strange indeed.
Four zoos in NA still holding Japanese Serow:
Uniteds States:
Roosevelt Park Zoo
Trevor Zoo
Canada:
Calgary Zoo
Zoo Granby
Toba aquarium have them. Japan holds all 4 species of sirenia.Ok good to know. When it comes to African manatees, are there some in Japan or only in China and Korea?

I didn't even know Amazonian manatees were kept in captivity, where are they?
Oh wow my bad, then I'm only right about the Galago but we're not even sure the animal really exists. Thanks for the correction. Is the Japanese Serow population stable, are they breeding or is it slowly vanishing in the US?
No idea. It showed up on JAZA's database during a search query last year, and it's still listed as of yesterday.

Yeah, makes sense why It wouldn't be there.Well, it could be, but from Somalia ?
Its not really the most likely region for a species to be obtained from is it ?
Could be a confiscation from a smuggler; that's how many lorises in Japanese zoos are acquired.
yes. Forest elephant in Asa Zoo and Akiyoshidai safari park, proboscis monkey in Zoorasia.Aren't there Forest Elephants and Proboscis Monkeys in Japan somewhere?
