Oh wow my bad, then I'm only right about the Galago but we're not even sure the animal really exists. Thanks for the correction. Is the Japanese Serow population stable, are they breeding or is it slowly vanishing in the US?
The female at Asa, who's still young, was a diplomatic gift from Burkina Faso.
Cool species nonetheless, I would love to go there but that would never happen.Ah I see, there are some very unusual species that end up in Japanese zoos, it is quite curious.
Apologies if this is too far off-topic, but the answer is a bit of both.Is the Japanese Serow population stable, are they breeding or is it slowly vanishing in the US?
Yes, but the trafficking routes are fairly simple in terms of lorises due to the proximity of Japan to South-East Asia.
Somalia is another case entirely though.
Where did Granby get the serrows fromApologies if this is too far off-topic, but the answer is a bit of both.
Japanese Serows were a bit more wide-spread in the early 2010's with LA, Woodland Park and San Diego all holding them. For whatever reason, these 3 zoos lost the species, limiting the population. Trevor Zoo had a pretty large group before 5 of them died in a single year; currently they only have one animal.
Fortunately, the Canadian population is doing a bit better. Calgary has held them for a while and has had quite a few births over the years. Granby got Serows pretty recently (2018/2019) and they had a birth in 2020.
I have no idea; I'd say Calgary would make the most sense but I don't have any proof that's where they are from.Where did Granby get the serrows from
