According to the courier mail a spider monkey was born at Melbourne and is being hand raised as the mother had rejected it.

It says in the article on the Melbourne Zoo website they hope its grandmother will raise it once it is old enough to be introduced to her.

Also, a baby capuchin was born in January.

It's not a stupid question. Using the grandmother is with all likelihood because that female has experience with babies and has proven a good mother in the past. Ideally the baby will be reintroduced soon and trained to take bottle feeding through the mesh. Otherwise it will be reintroduced once it can eat solid food. It's tricky business handrearing primates. Often they get problems in social situations when they grow up.
