Cairns Wildlife Safari Reserve staff going without pay so lions don't go hungry

Well this sounds like good news. Can you be anymore specific about where they will stay?

The Hippo for sea world I would assume.

Yep, 1xRiver hippo and 1xPygmy hippo are staying in Aus

Could Steve Robinson tell us, were Australian Zoos given the oppertunity to take on any of the animals if they wanted them? I can understand no one exactly wanting most of the animals there, but were they advertised or offered to other australian institutions?

I can't tell you anything - sorry.

The fat lady hasn't sung yet.

Does anyone have any photos to put up in the CWSR/shambala's album? I was never able to go and see the facility and I would love to have a good look at some more photos, as I always heard reasonably positive things about the apparently large and naturalistic enclosures :)

Unfortunately at my visit I didn't take photos but in my opinion the exhibits were magnificent. Both the common and pygmy hippo exhibits would have easily rivaled any exhibit globally. The exhibits were certainly the strong point.

Only a pair of Pygmy Hippos?????
Reviving the 2013 thread: Cairns Wildllife Safari Reserve had a breeding pair (the now infamous Frank x Fluffy). The last calf from 2009 (Fergus) was sent to Sydney's Taronga Zoo. This was before the park got in the lowdown shambles and sold of part of the collection to Taman Safari Indonesia in Bogor.
