Chester Zoo "Superzoo"- rumours, confirmed etc...

a hotel would make sence with the collection expanding to that size
Thats include in the plans at some stage, but i`m not sure this expansion is a good thing for the zoo yes it will bring in many new species and hopefully some world class exhibits, but if it doesn`t bring in the people it could be the end of the zoo.

I am curious.

Does anybody know other examples of hotel with the zoo? I think its exclusively found in some highly commercial theme parks like Disney. Or in big cities, when hotel 'at the zoo' actually serves general city travellers. Would people really spend 2 days with animals?

Or maybe the hotel could feature other attractions. Watching animals at evening or night for example? Whenever I can do it, predators become active and are great to watch.

Port Lymnpe has a safari lodge overlooking the African Experience. And in Marwell's masterplan it labels 'Guest Accomodation' in the courtyard buildings by the hall that currently serve as a vet surgery and other staff buildings. (These will be relocated to the current Somali Wild Ass/Waterbuck paddocks)

Dont forget chessington! that opened last year and looks actually pretty good, it is a simple safari theme.

Thats why they are planning it in phases, so they can stop if its not working and regroup maybe look at something differen't

The big thing I worry about is whether the loss of income from renting the fields out will be lost or not?

If it all goes wrong on phase1 then the zoo will be in very serious trouble as its going to cost in the region of 90 million while the whole project is around the 255 million so that well over 25% of the plan in 1 go,i realy do hope it works as when the zoo first annouced the plans to members i thought it was a great idea now i`m not so sure.Another thing to bear in mind is the person who was responsible for the GLASS SLUG project in the CITY CENTRE of CHESTER is now working on NATURAL VISION look what happened to that buildings knocked down and nothing happened.

According to New Civil Engineer magazine, the architects for Heart of Africa were also the same architects that worked on Gorilla Kingdom! :(

They also work on Lion of the Serengeti for Whipsnade.

Now i`m just that little bit more worried as they are both exhibits that i considered only to be just about OK,and the fact that Gorilla Kingdom cost so much for next to nothing compared to what this will cost.

I know, lets hope they have done a better job this time or they have to redesign some of it.

I agree totaly with you but things are starting to make me worry alot more than i should be,i trust the management at Chester as they have a great job of transforming the zoo to what it is today but i just don`t trust the people they are bringing in to run this project.
