Sydney Aquarium Sydney Aquarium

The oceanarium is now "Shark Valley". Valleys are well known shark habitats, of course.

This is like watching a train wreck in extreme slow motion. Wonder when we'll get a SEA Life in Melbourne and on the Sunshine Coast.
 
Wait till you see Shark Valley! To be fair, the shark oceanarium desperately needed fixing, and Village were not gong to invest the money into it. Sunshine Coast will be happening soon.
 
Oh, I'm not saying that the exhibit will be terrible. Only that the name is illiterate and treats the public like idiots.
 
Just realised my previous message can be read two ways. The finished product is a perfect match for the name and a step backwards. Very sad.

why does Sea Life have to turn every tunnel tank into an Atlantis-style sunken city?
 
Looking at that photo, I finally get why a lot of people had been worried about this redevelopment. Seriously, if they really think they need to put some fake man-made structures in with the animals, why couldn't they have used something relevant to being the Sydney Aquarium? Maybe a fake wreck like the Sirius or something? (..I know it's wrecked off Norfolk Island but it sailed in and out of Sydney and it's certainly not Mediterranean-themed..)
 
I'm not really knowledgable about the business aspect of the aquarium world so can somebody fill me in on what this Sea Life organization is? Are they basically a for-profit company that takes over ailing aquariums? Would you consider them to be the aquarium version of MacDonald's?

The Sydney Aquarium looks like it has quite an amazing collection (platypus, dugongs, litte penguins, grey sharks), at least from a North American perspective.

Not just that, if you look at the picture, they are putting up some sort of wall inside the tunnel, and it's as high as a person, so you can't look sideways anymore. Why do sealife tunnels have to start at shoulderheigth? Why can't they just accept an aquarium in their midst that has it's own distinctive style?

Would you consider them to be the aquarium version of MacDonald's?

Yes, sea-life is the aquarium version of mcdonalds. They ruin everything thye but, with their thirteen in a dozen style exhibits. The new exhibits you will see at sydney are the same they have in all other sealife locations.

And yes, sydney has a great collection, it's a lovely aquarium. And so was melbourne, but they already wasted that as wel

oh wow I didn't notice that! That is just unnecessary. It looks like it's about chest-height: how are little kids supposed to see anything that's not pretty much directly above them?!

Yeah perfect. Other ideas include a Harold Holt skeleton holding a "Gone Fishin' sign and a Bondi Beach sewerage outfall pipe....
 
Pig the male dugong has gone on display. Wuru the female is still cautious and is slowly being introduced to the tank.
