Taipei Zoo Taipei zoo news

That would be F Li Mei born in 1996 in Taipei.

BTW: Kyoto Zoo is Grevy zebra studbookkeeper for JAZGA zoos. The population in 2018 was 12.10 individuals for 7 zoos.
Yes, the last one Grevy's Zebra in Taipei was Li Mei. Kyoto City Zoo seems also cooperates with EEP.

I guess Kyoto Zoo do as close cooperation exists between at least North American SSP, European EEP and Japanese JAZGA programs. Japan is set to take the stage since late last year in upgrading its species programs. I am really expecting much from the recent surge also in S.E. Asia (Singapore, Seoul and Taipei Zoos all entering into partnerships with EAZA).

Some interesting facts: the Taipeh Zoo born pygmy hippo's parents are F2 generation already born within the zoo itself. Breeding male is Xiao Jie (born 12/12/2007) and the females - if I am correct - are Qiu Xiaoju and Jiao Qiu.

Not sure about the females though as names in the international studbook do not correspond and I doubt that both breeding females are the ones born in 1979

I tend to think Qiu Xiaoju is Siao Jhu (so named in the studbook) and born in September 2010. The second I just do not know at all. I can send you the studbook data per PM if you want, so you can check which is which (I think the studbook contains some animals now deceased ...).

More importantly, this is the first indication that a 3-way cooperation between EAZA, AZA and the Taiwan Zoo organisation has worked import / export-wise. We have had this discussion before where it was observed imports into Europe (I think the same applied to US and North America) from Asia were near impossible. Anyone volunteer some feedback welcome?

I assume this is news from this June 2021 on the white rhino and potential for another breeding and mating. According to the newspaper feature the rhino did not mate, but their activities seemed to suggest the female was cycling and in season and behaviours indicating being in breeding mode. This is the pair Xi Wang and Xi Chun that had a M calf Xi Qi in 2012 (transferred to Shou Shan Zoo in 2018 to be paired with elderly female Baby - she is positively ancient and was listed in the ISB as Lost to Follow Up).
