I know international visitors would be captivated by seeing Saltwater crocodiles. They’re hugely popular at Australia Zoo and as a fan of the Crocodile Hunter series as a kid, I was still interested to see multiple exhibits of them to see all the individuals from the show.
Unfortunately they require a lot of space and so as a city zoo, I agree Taronga will likely never hold them again.
Space wasn't the issue for taronga the heating of the enclosure and water were. Featherdale, and the reptile park hold large males in enclosures that are not actually that big. However, Sydney's climate is not one for them and they require a lot of specialized heating which the zoo decided not to do. I remember when they made the big deal about how sydney isn't ideal to keep them and best decision is to phase them out. Which made the zoo look less then stellar, when featherdale, the reptile park, symbio and wildlife zoo at darling harbour all held the species. That was a PR nightmare for them.
Of memory isnt part of the wild ropes over where they used to be.
