The football thread

And Australia is known for its beaches and... erm... Oh that's right, where did your athletics team finish in the olympic medal table? :p

It's only natural that the hosts do well. :p
Our positions on the medals table were swapped for the 2000 Sydney Olympics.

The next Ashes should be interesting.

That is true, the home crowd does help! We'll see how things go in Rio in 2016! ;)

As for The Ashes, I can't comment as I agree with jbnbsn99 that cricket (whilst being as British as tea and scones) is absolutely, mind numbingly, spirit crushingly boring! :D
And that's a sport we don't appear to be bad at, shame I can't get in to it. I think it'd be better if it didn't go on for days at a time.

Oh dear. Poor kid doesn't even know how to spell dealt. :D

Actually the poor kid doesn't know how to spell deemed:D:o

I am not a fan. I also dislike nudity in mainstream movies. I think that there are other kinds of videos to watch and indoor events to attend if one wishes to see naked (or skimpily clad) women, and it really doesn't have a place in mainstream movies or sports.

I don't care what you say Friday the 13th (2009) was a great movie!:D;)

By the way, did the wife make you say that?

I actually enjoyrd playing cricket for the 20mins I did several years ago. Watching any sport bores me, even Basketball!

I'm really surprised by this position nanoboy, it doesn't sound like you at all! Prude much :D I'm not sure about the sports so much, some of them do seem like a bit of a perve-fest, but nudity can be a powerful tool in telling a story in mainstream movies (e.g. Titanic, Love Actually), where it is not depicted gratuitously but thoughtfully. Just my thoughts.

I remember saying to only focus on football, but that's being ignored.
The possible topic is Bradford, ballboys, and Barcelona. You could also post champions league predictions.

Although I want to keep the topic to football, I just want to say that there is a beach on Skye, that is Made of coral.

champions league predictions:

galatasaray v schalke
1-1 on aggregate, galatasaray win 4-1 on penalties

juventus v celtic
juventus win 3-0 on aggregate

arsenal v bayern munich
bayern win 3-4 on aggregate

shakhtar dontesk v borussia dortmund
borussia dortmund win 2-0 on aggregate

barcelona v ac milan
barcelona win 6-2 on aggregate

manchester united v real madrid
manchester united win 1-0 on aggregate

psg v valencia
psg win 4-0 on aggregate

porto v malaga
malaga vin 2-0 on aggregate

what's yours?

Mostly the same as yours. Only the last two are different. I think that Real Madrid will eliminate ManU and Porto will be better then Malaga.

My Predictions for Championships in European Leagues:

GERMANY: Bayern Munich (if not, then the most important point for me is that they beat Borussia Dortmund in the Cup).

SWITZERLAND: FC Basel (although I keep my fingers crossed for current leader Grasshopper Zurich)

NETHERLANDS/HOLLAND: Twente Enschede (although I like Ajax more)

SPAIN: FC Barcelona (who else?)

PORTUGAL: Benfica

FRANCE: PSG

ITALY: Juventus

ENGLAND: Manchester United (better a club sponsored by an american capitalist then one sponsored by shaky russian oligarchs or islamic oil sheiks)

SCOTTLAND: Celtic Glasgow (they are up and away already)

SWEDEN: Malmö FF (experienced Team/Club)

Well even if took all the sports in the Olympics 2012 the great country of Australia still finished below the might County of Yorkshire in the medal table:D:p

You guys sound surprised that I dislike unnecessary nudity in sports and movies. It is true though. At strip clubs, the women are far more attractive and flexible, and you don't have to have a keen eye to catch when a top slips to the side. Same goes for adult movies. Time and place. While sex does add to a movie, it can be tastefully done like for TV shows.

Just when you think UEFA cannot get any dafter they announce that the 2020 European championship finals will take place in THIRTEEN countries.

Well at least Northern Ireland, Scoltand and Wales have a chance of being hosts.

Just so you know there is a very large amount of underaged ZooChatters on this site:D

I had myself watch a live Soccer (Football) scrimage yesterday and it wasn't that bad. I watched a Lacrosse game after and found it vastly confusing and had a very difficult time keeping track of the ball.

it's the small round thing

Yes very small. On a big field with large guys beating each other it's very hard to keep an eye on. I missed several goals.
I always think of lacrosse as being a girls' sport. So in America it is the sport that is played by men not tough enough for ice hockey or ping-pong?

People get hurt. They don't wear as much padding as in American Football and they constantly seem to get beat up with the metal stick and tackled. One kid walked off the field with a large gash on his leg. My friend plays and he prefers it over Ice Hockey and American Football (both of which he's played).

oh people get hurt in ping-pong too. One of those balls can take an eye out! I knew one guy who had two glass eyes after losing his real ones in a ping-pong match. He still played but wasn't much good any more.....
