The new exhibit is split in two with a termite mound that people can go in and view into either exhibit. There are lots of pop bubbles like prairie dog exhibits. It look really nice.
 
Nice to see Maritime update the Harbor Seal exhibit. It was a nice aquarium back a few years ago when I visited but the tiny seal enclosure was a travesty in an otherwise fine institution. From the looks of the new exhibits, this change looks really great.

On June 30th, it was announced that the aquarium received $98,058 from the US Fish and Wildlife Service and the AZA for the care of endangered species.

*Misc news: On May 28th, the aquarium opened a temporary exhibit called Flutter Zone which ran until September 5th. There are 3 other temporary exhibits running till Fall 2022; Shark Haven (which features (0.0.4) sandbar sharks), Think You Know Goldfish, and A Slug's Life: Facing the Climate Endgame.

On June 13th, the aquarium announced that a (0.1) harbor seal named Polly passed away at age 37 on June 12th.

The Maritime Aquarium recieved 9-month-old gray seal Mikey from the Brookfield Zoo on December 4th, 2024. He is the first and thus far only gray seal to be housed at this facility.

On February 14th, the aquarium announced that a (0.1) harbor seal named Leila passed away on February 13th at age 13 due to a decline in health caused by old age.

Leila was estimated to be 37 :)

Edit: Correcting the previous date I gave, she was rescued on June 20th, 1988 by the New England Aquarium and was transferred to the Maritime Aquarium on January 24th, 1989
 
On May 27th, the aquarium announced they acquired a new boat called the R/V Sound Explorer for the purpose of educational programs, with public tours around Long Island Sound starting in June.
