Things people do that irritate you when you go to the zoo? #2

Ah yes, because everyone loves these long, protracted taxonomy talks on forums that don't have the slightest thing to do with it.
No need for a condescending, rude remark. I don't know about you, but I can't find a taxonomy discussion in this thread.

African wild dogs are hyenas ;)
Yep. Hear this all the time at Denver with their rotational exhibits. People seemingly are unable to look down at a sign showing the many differences.

This is a forum mainly about animals afterall, taxonomy talks are bound to pop up once in a while :p

Exactly. Truth be told, I never really read the individual posts because of how painstakingly long they can be :p.

I think that he was making a joke, adding another misconception to the list he quoted. On the other hand, if he's serious, than yeah, that's a canid (hence the "dog").
That’s what I heard “ Mummy look at the hyenas off the lion king “ ;)

No, they're just called Snow Leopards because someone thought it was cool, not because they live in places with snow! Duh! :p:D:rolleyes:
While a simple read of the sign would ave proved that Snow Leopards are quite used to the cold, there are plenty of animals with "snow" in their name just because they look cool and not because they live in snow. A good example of this is the Snowy Cotinga.

It's not named a Snowy Cotinga because "it looks cool", it is named that because it is white. What other examples do you have of "plenty of other animals" with snow used in their name "because they look cool"?

I mean, is it really a bad thing? Birdwatchers do it for ages in nature, when they try to lure some bird closer to them.
Maybe not a problem if done once or maybe once a week. But some desirable "ticks" in accessible locations get called out by this practice so often they forget to do potentially desirable things like feed and mate.

People giving food to animals while there is a sign thay says "don't feed the animals" about 20 cm of distance from them
