Obsolete Tips for uploading photos

Just thought I'd mention a tip for those people planning on uploading photos to the gallery ...

The gallery software automatically resizes any photos down to a maximum of 1600 pixels in either dimension (eg 1600px high or 1600px wide).

If you upload a larger photo, it just takes more time and requires more processing power on the server (which is one of the reasons the server has been running a bit slowly of late).

If you have software to manage your photos and can easily export images automatically resized - then I suggest you do this before uploading - it will save both uploading time and processing time on the server.

I use Adobe Photoshop Lightroom for managing my photos and have set up an export macro which creates a copy of the photo in my "to be uploaded to ZooBeat" directory and automatically resizes them to no more than 1600px in width or height. Very easy.

Hi Sim
I tried a couple of weeks ago to upload a couple of small video clips. It seemed to work but when I tried to find them afterwards I couldn't find them. Does this mean that I cannot upload video clips in the gallery and that I should upload them as a thread?

No - that's what happens when the upload times out. That means your link is too slow for the size of the file (video can be very large).

The FTP upload that I mentioned in another thread might help (I haven't tested it with video files yet)
