Toledo Zoo Toledo Zoo and Aquarium news 2025

For any Toledo locals - can you ask about Edgar the amur leopard? Someone on Facebook is claiming he passed before he could arrive in Toledo from Cleveland but either zoo would have said something.

Few updates from Tuesday's visit:

Africa!
Apparently there's a 15,000-gallon fish tank for african fish, I only saw cichlids. It is in the event center.

Tembo Trail
Both Tasmanian Devils have sadly passed, and the zoo is trying to decide what to do with that enclosure.
• The reptile house looks amazing! The crocodile exhibit is massive and the entry exhibit will be for anacondas and amazon fish and possibly lizards, similar to MOLA's galleries.

Aquarium
• The old touch tan for inverts now houses multiple nano reef tanks with coral.
• There is 50+ new species of fish in the aquarium.

Galapagos Garden and Ziem's Conservatory
• The aldabra tortoises are on exhibit, in the right habitat.
• The new conservatory will be a permanent addition, with some more species to join.
• If you look into the actual conservatory, you can see some monitor species and deep inside the tuatara!

I was there that same day, WOW!

I can confirm that there is a miniature cow in the barnyard I got a photo behind the scenes.

And to elaborate further on what USZOOfan42 said the Ocean Lab touch tank was replaced by some smaller tanks for coral. These exhibits are located next to the kelp forest exhibits.

The Cichlids tank has been there since that event center was built.

Really cool to compare notes with my visit. I'm hoping to come back next year to see the new Reptile House when it opens and revisit the facility. No wonder the old devil enclosure wasn't open on my visit but shame to hear they both passed. I'm glad the Conservatory will be permanent, a walkthrough reptile exhibit was very novel and I enjoyed it.

I visited this past Thursday for the extended eveing hours. These were my most noteworthy observations:
  • For whatever reason, the polar and brown bears were both off-exhibit, at least by late afternoon.
  • The Aviary, Aquarium, and Ziem's Conservatory were disappointingly all closed for the day by 4 PM.
  • They seem to be letting the vegetation in the wolf habitat grow pretty dense, I'm sure the wolves like it but it's definitely not the most convenient for photography!
  • The cheetahs had been moved out of their main yard by the time I got there but were fortunately still viewable in their backstage one from the train.
  • Saw the new Amur leopard! Unfortunately, I wasn't able to get any truly great photos with my camera because at first, he was repeatedly pacing back and forth against the mesh, before going to lounge in a position where the branches of a tree concealed his eyes... and then he fell asleep!
  • Did not see any animals in the outdoor Primate Forest exhibits but did see both lemur species in the indoor section.
A question: does anyone know why they seem to have given up on using The Valley (which long held cheetahs and then briefly reindeer) as exhibit space?

Best to contact the zoo. I have no clue, as they both are newer, but I will try to find out.
I contacted the zoo and their names are Jupiter and Jace. I didnt find an email for the zoo at the beginning but I ended up contacting the membership department and they responded me.
Thank you.

Might be going to Toledo in late September/early October. Other than the reptile house is there anything else that may be closed when I go?
