Celebrate the history and future of the Toledo Zoo's Aquarium!
Join us at the Aquarium on August 11!
The Toledo Zoo’s Aquarium will close on October 1, 2012 for full renovation, scheduled to reopen in the first half of 2015. This Bon Voyage celebration is our way of sending off a beloved exhibit in style!
Activities
• 10am-4pm: Educational crafts and activities
• 10am-4pm: Check out historical photos of the Aquarium, along with conceptual images of the new Aquarium.
• 10:30am: Shark feed
• 11am-12pm: Behind-the-scenes Aquarium open house
• 1:15 pm: Tamarin primate enrichment in the Aquarium’s Rainforest room
• 2pm: South American Tank Dive/Feed
• 3-4pm: Behind-the-scenes Aquarium open house
What about the fish and the WPA-era Aquarium building?
Our Aquarium animals will remain in excellent care. They will be transferred to either an off-site facility for long-term care by the Zoo’s Aquarium staff, or they will be relocated to other aquariums in the region.
Opening in May, 1939, the Aquarium was one of the last Zoo projects built by Works Progress Administration (WPA) crews. Preserving this architectural heritage is an integral part of our renovations! The building’s “footprint” will remain essentially the same, while indoors you’ll enjoy floor-to-ceiling tanks, touch tanks and greater interaction than ever.
Don’t miss one of your last chances to experience the Aquarium and celebrate its legacy before renovations begin!
