Oh I so need the spoonbill chick to have a fun name like big sister Reese Witherspoonbill not like sister Rita. I like when the names make me laugh.

After countless days of researching for a photo of the orangutan Kartiko, I've finally found a website that sort of gave me an answer. In the photo below, it shows a past orangutan from the zoo. I'm not sure if its either Juara (male), or if its actually Kartiko. Maybe someone can help me figure out this.upload_2022-2-9_20-43-9.png

My guess would be this is not Kartiko as he passed when he was 8 years old and this male is clearly in his early to mid teens. I also am not so sure its Juara either as he left at 11 years old. Budi and Kembali werent this developed at that age. That would also rule out Santan who left at 9 and a half and Mias II who was 6 when he left. The strongest contender is actually Dinar who was 14 years old when he left. Until the boys he was the male offspring who lived at the zoo the longest.

Looking at the picture description, it mentioned an orangutan who had previously left the zoo, and an orangutan who had died in an early age. There were actually 2 pictures. Reading back into that article, it mentioned "Juara" who had left the zoo, and "Kartiko" who died young. Here is another picture of a young orang in the past.

Oh man the staff in Australasia must be crushed by his passing. A recent Facebook Live featured Graham and they had spend 2 years teaching him to be their buddy to feed him meds. A good long life but still must be painful for the staff. The keeper talking that day really seemed to have a tight bond with him.

Some more bird babies at the zoo, they just announced that white-cheeked turacos Bruce Lee and Linda recently had a new chick!

Oh good for the turacos. The zoo thought it was gonna be a long shot given their age and the fact they hadnt bred in quite some time.

Pemba was out today and lounging in his "shelter". I overheard a number of people talking about him all the way from the front gate (where the volunteers were really promoting him) throughout Eurasia.

He's a good looking snow leopard, but also good that he's getting some recognition and there was excitement around the zoo for him!

Was there today and he was certainly the talk of the zoo. Also got to see baby spoonbill with some creative viewing. The main viewing is blocked off. A volunteer suggested the name Tea Spoonbill which I can totally get on board with.

Mstari is off display now in anticipation of the baby so dad is on display solo right now.

Talk from a volunteer is that Suva and paprika are hitting it off already.

Apparently they are still trying to get the sakis to breed. The middle exhibit in Americas is done. The original plan of making it an expansion for the sakis and Sally didn’t work out as the bachelor tamarins got too worked up next to the family group. So it sounds like they will be cycling the sakis in to give them a break from the tamarins to encourage breeding. Today Sally was there and out to see. There was a big crowd which was great.

Well sounds like I have some stuff to look forward to whenever I make my next visit. I'm hoping for a mild March. Love that Pemba is already becoming a TZ celebrity, it's not often that a new non-baby arrival gets such a warm welcome like that.

If Mstari and Amani are off exhibit that probably means we'll be seeing the baby sooner than I was expecting. Hope everything goes well.

Thanks for the updates guys!

That's great news to wake up to! Glad to see both mom and baby are doing great. Here's hoping Amani got a little sister!

Now that the cheetahs and giraffe have arrived that means it's the orang next, c'mon Sekali don't let us down

Little Long Legs has arrived! And what a great video TZ shared to make the announcement! Seeing LLL's first moments was so special - another fine social media example!

Hope the giraffe calf gets a name soon!

About 1 month left, looking forward to seeing the new baby orangutan!

Also hope Puppe gets paired up with someone, she looks so lonely by herself....
