Sad to see the last of the long time roos and wallabies go but Stevie lived a long life at nearly 14.

Wallaby joey, The Machine, should be heading to Granby once he's old enough. Sadly there wont be any other joeys after him because both Darwin and Wallace are neutered. Hopefully we get another male eventually who can breed.

That is too bad.

@Kalvin do any of the other keepers have public instagram accounts that are interesting to follow (similar to Dolf's)? I wouldn't want to intrude on someone who was keeping a private account for friends and family - but would be interested if people wanted to be followed!

The grey kangaroo joey is female and has been named Shelia.

They believe but have not confirmed yet that Bennett's wallaby joey, The Machine, is also female.

Nice to know that the mob is finally getting some female joeys. Also hopefully The Machine is a female since then her and her mom could be the future of the wallabies.

Adelaide and Shelia are likely the future of the roo mob. If they could get sisters on the next round then send Simon off and bring in a new male for the girls, especially while Sydney and Tori are still breeding age.

For the wallabies there doesnt yet seem to be a future for breeding. Darwin and Wallace are both neutered. Florence and the Machine could be paired with another male but that doesnt seem to be the plan. Like I said The Machine is supposed to go to Granby regardless of gender. Its a big mob there so they could chance their mind base gender but that mob is mostly sterilized males. Another female would give them another chance to breed with a valuable male. If they are wrong and The Machine is a male even more important to go because he would then be one of the most valuable males in North America instead of just a decent female. There doesn't seem to be any plans to bring in a male for Florence who could breed her. I bet the zoo chooses to just keep taking in Peterborough's neutered males. Kinda a waste of potential for the bigger zoo but Toronto does have lapses in judgement when it comes to breeding potential at times.

Paprika the Red Panda gave birth to a healthy male cub on July 13th!

Both mother and cub are doing well, and the little guy has been entirely reared by mom so far.

This is a particularly special birth for me, as paprika is the first red panda baby (along with her sister and half brother) I’ve ever gotten to watch grow up personally, and to see her go from a little pink cub, to a boisterous young juvenile, to a confident and outgoing young adult, to now being a mother has been truly rewarding!

Fingers crossed all continues to go well with Mom and cub, and the two of them will be on display soon enough.

Awesome news! Glad to hear they're both doing well. Apparently it's a year of mostly baby boys this year at the TZ

@hyena142, the babies are more of a split between genders.

Boys
1 Giraffe
1 Orang
1 Bison
1 Red Panda
2 Cheetah

Girls
1 Kangaroo
1 Wallaby
1 Cheetah
2 Bison

Plus a bunch of babies were we have no clue what gender they are, tur, black footed ferrets, shrikes, Massassagua rattlesnakes, white cheeked turaco, spoonbill, plush crested jays and marmots. The only other big baby we know is coming this year is the Przewalski's Horse foal from Winona and Dudley. I wish the kudu girls were pregnant with parting gifts from the late Maynard but as we get deeper into summer its time to start giving up hope.

Looks like the two spider monkeys went to Magnetic Hill Zoo in Moncton, NB.

Well that answers our spider monkey questions. If the girls ended up at Magnetic Hill then Lucas has probably arrived at Granby as well. Not where the girls were to go but it was only to be a temporary home anyway. This is better because they should have a home for life now. Glad the sisters can stay together.

I was there today, the sign posted outside the old spider monkey exhibit says stay tuned for new animals coming and to follow the zoo's socials for updates, which is weird considering that exhibit is gonna be a jag expansion

That is interesting. We are due to get a young female jaguar from Granby so maybe they are going to just retrofit it and have both Luca and the new girl on display at the same time. I cant imagine they will want to spend a ton on the jaguar exhibit as it is when the plan is to obliterate the temple for a new jaguar/flamingo space. I wouldnt be sad though if we got another monkey even temporarily.

@RhinoHippoElephantGiraffe, Cheyenne Mountain Zoo is indeed the selected new home for Mila. She currently is slated to just be an exhibit animal for them but that could always change as she grows up. Toronto will then just be a holding facility for awhile as Mazy is too old to breed and Vasili isnt genetically valuable enough to really warrant sending him a mate from the US (Canada desperately needs some new bloodlines since almost all descend from Toronto's Tonghua).

The zoo has announced the Blanding's turtle clutches they collected from the wild in June have begun hatching.

The zoo had just announced that the new orangutan baby's name will be revealed on August 19th. You are able to submit your guess the baby's name for a chance to win a Behind-The-Scenes Zoo Tour.

The name options are Arief, Cahyo, Kadek and Wali. They each mean something in Indonesian. You can submit your guess here until the 18th.

I'm thinking it's gonna be Kadek personally, that one just sounds the most satisfying. Plus it means younger sibling which kinda works since he's the half-brother of Kembali, and the keepers picked this one so I think they'll go for something like that. Both K names as well.

Im a fan of Kadek too. I could see Wali too but I dont care for it as much. Cahyo and Arief will be hard to get guests to say right so I think they might shy from them. Just a shame the zoo didnt let us pick. I do like a contest though. Come on let me win! Usually I could careless about the prizes. This one is good.
