Toronto Zoo Toronto Zoo Births, Deaths and Transfers 2024

Looks like Tori is the mom according to facebook. The roos have been on fire lately, Simon and the girls have been good to us year after year. It'll be nice to have another little one in the walkabout this summer.

Interesting Tori is the mother. She has been the mom to the last three joeys. I wonder if the zoo has stopped breeding Sydney because she was so nervous with her last joey she expelled her from the pouch and they got lucky they found her in time and got her back in.

At this point it is all speculation. Whether they are doing the exhibit refresh just to clean it up while they have the opportunity or they are switching species for a period of time has not been announced.

The only guidance we have are the Animal Lives with Purpose document, which references aiming for 1.1 Komodos and adding an outdoor area for them. This document is from 2020. Additionally the master plan does include Komodo Dragons in the plan.

That all being said these are just plans so as of right now we don't have any confirmation on the future of the species, rather speculation. Personally I think they will try and replace Kilat as it is a very iconic species.

Couldn't have said it better. Right now the future of komodos at the zoo is just a big maybe? Ideally I agree I think they would like to keep them. Realistically though it might be too hard to get new komodos and they wont get what they want. Only time will tell.

Have to say on the baby kangaroo front...I know it's the norm for them, but I still find it hilarious that they're like "Hey, apparently we have a new baby kangaroo and oh by the way it's 6 months old already". Any other species and it would be like "how did you not notice for 6 months there was an extra one?!"

No idea, would be great to see, but no announcement at this time. I think they may have moved some inverts back into the pavilion from what I have heard, but I haven't by by to confirm it with my own eyes haha

@Jefferson DukiePhoto on instagram has put a number of invert photos I don't recognize as being in other pavilions I asked about one that's in the katydid family and they confirmed it was in the Malayan Woods I think there's also a Gooty Sapphire Ornamental Spider.

Was at the zoo today and confirmed the inverts that have been added to the Malayan Woods are Malayan Walking Stick, Busy Katydid, Giant Asian Millipede, and Gooty Sapphire Ornamental Spider.

Also talked to a keeper in the Americas Pavilion and he didn't think they'd had the Andean Marsupial Frogs for a few years now. Another keeper wasn't sure if they still had the Desert Grassland Whiptails.
