I trust that the zoo and its desingers will make it very interactive! Look at the Great Barrier Reef exhibits and the Tundra Trek it will progress the zoo to be top of the line! I think it will be interactive.

Sorry about the delay in posts, I was just setting up a ten gallon tank for my baby cichlids!

Exactly :) I'm also glad they're redoing the Malawai tank now than wait twenty years down the road to do it. No doubt it'd probably be very expensive, but I think it'd be good if the zoo did more routine renovations and updates like that than wait for a long time to redo them (which could likely result in more bigger, more expensive projects). Just a thought off the top of my head :)

No prob!

Anyone been to the zoo lately? I would like to know what the Tundra looks like now! The next time I go proabaly in July ill take pictures of the African Rainforest Pavilion just too make sure I can compare what it looks like now to what it will look like!

I was just thinking why couldn't the zoo do Indo first then Africa. I think the zoo has choosed to do the rest of the african pavilion because its not an expensive project, like what Indo would cost.

I was there on June 15th. Tundra had actually changed quite a bit over the last two weeks. Last time I was there, around two weeks ago, they had the Mayan Temple Ruins area blocked completely. Now it's all open and all pathways there and around the new Tundra Area have been paved. The pathways are actually nice and wide. So we can see the jaguars once again. Looks like great progress has been made with arctic wolves area, arctic fox area and of course the polar bear area. However, it looks like the work on the reindeer exhibit has only just begun. I doubt that the reindeer exhibit will be ready for August 1st. However, I don't care much for the reindeer anyways.

Cheers,
Dave

To be honest all they have to do for the reindeer is slap up a fence and let the grass grow! They are using the exisiting Llama house and stalls for them! So it wont take a whole lot of time. BTW, there will be only a few reindeer in the exhibit opening for the Tundra. The outreach reindeer b/c they can be walked over. The rest of the reindeer will be moved in the fall were it will be less stressful for them. (Reindeer are prone to heat stress)

I was wondering why they chose Africa too, considering the latest update they did was fairly recently (but not to the mandrill/pygmy hippo area).

Thanks for the update about the Tundra!

I apologize if this has already been mentioned in this thread, but I definitely don't have time to go through all 27 pages because I haven't been with ZooChat since the beginning of that thread.

Anyways, I was told today by a Supervisor that as soon as Tundra Trek is complete, the snow leopard exhibit is next on the list. They are moving them to where the goats are and utilize some of the existing rock structures there. I thought this might be of some interest to some of you that may not already know this. Personally, I'm thrilled to see what they can do better for the snow leopards.

Wow, I don't think that has been talked about on the thread, I am very surprised that the zoo is pulling a random (does need to be done though) enclosure into all of this. There might be more to it though cause Eurasia is the next thing on the zoos list so that may be one exhibit being done in the area during the first sub-phase of the second phase of the North Zoo Redevelopment Site.

Are they bulldozing the whole goat exhibit, or are they just fixing/enhancing some of the things in the exhibit?

I would think that the zoo will keep some of the existing mountain like tiffanyanddave said. and build the exhibit around that.

Ah, well I hope that it will turn out a success. The colour of the existing rockwork would probably need to be changed, correct me if I'm wrong but is the colour of the mountain a tan orange? something along those lines. But I hope mist machines are used throughout some of the Eurassia exhibits.

You are correct about the colour of the mountains. If they do go along with this plan then I am sure that the zoo will paint whatever part of the mountains they keep. Some mist machines are used in Eurasia. I know the reindeers and P.horses have them. In 2007 when those snow leopard cubs were born the zoo had mist machines in that exhibit.

Hm, well I plan on going to the zoo early july to see the snow leopard cubs. I'll try to get some pics of the new Tundra exhibit and of the cubs if I can.

Yea, I am going to the zoo tomorrow so I will have pics of the Tundra put in the gallary.

I used to be, my mom and I would usually go once in awhile now I go like once a month you could say with friends. We are only going this month cuz of the cubs and August is the Tundra Trek. :) I probably wouldn't have the patience to wait for a good photo. Haha :)

Haha, yea it took me a while to get patience to take pictures cause I usualy stick to a schedule, (I am very orginized) and I just had to put that aside and let the animals run my life :p!
