Probably way premature, but has anyone heard of what special attraction will be coming next year? I was thinking about this earlier and thought it'd be terrific if the special visitors were African Wild Dogs! Maybe if they're popular enough, they might consider having them as a permanent exhibit. I think that's what happened with the Red River Hogs, I believe it was planned that they were going to be only temporary.

African Wild Dog would be amazing, they could probably rotate exhibit time with the hyenas or something along those lines?

I think that could work! I was also thinking of Okapi too, although as I understand they're a shier species so they probably wouldn't work as well as a temporary animal.

The problem with them is that without moving animals, there is virtually no space and if there is, it isn't large enough

The other thing with them is actually gettign them into Canada. Were basically seen as a blackhole because there are very few high quality zoos here (Let alone zoos period) so if we want to send an animals somewhere, it likely we have to get them past the border back into USA territory (Which can be equally hard)

It would be nice though I f we ever did ge them though and It may be likely as we have brought several other species to Canada (red river hog, sumatran tiger, dhole, pygmy hippo)

To be honest, I don't think any special exhibition will be planned for next year. Dinosaurs Alive!, and Stingray Bay were only there to help boost attendance from not having polar bears, now that the bears are back I don't think the zoo will be planning any more special/temp. exhibits. And I think the zoo is trying to focus there money on the Eurasia/Canadian Wilderness Exhibits.

Good point; that'd be better money spent! The North Site development plan is HUGE. Maybe the horticultural staff can create and grow a money tree? ;)

Meaghan, if they did I would love to have one! It would be a great idea!

I would too! Something really unusual could help bring more money in for new/ongoing projects, so there's another way of looking at it :)

Just thought I'd post some other projcts I remember reading about

Apparently, the zoo wants to build a second outdoor yard for the gorillas (Which doesn't make sense to me, why don't the just expand the one they have now?)

They also want to build a second and maybe third entrance (not sure where in the zoo?) and revitalize the current one (Which would be great although I'm fairly pleased with it now)

Where did you read about this? Post link? The only thing I can recall is the renovations of the zoo entrance, the renos to the gorillas have finished according to what they had in the city budget.

It was a budget plan but I can't remember which, sorry

A new entrance? Where in the zoo would a new entrance fit? The one they have now is fine.

I know; and again, I'd rather they redo the Indo section. The entrance can be spruced up easily enough without spending too much I think, maybe another flower bed.

I don't think it so much another entrance, I think it would be refurbishment to the existing entrance. I do agree with you Meaghan Indo should come first!

Indo deffinetly should take priority over anothr entrance. Maybe they should remove the screens at the entrance. I, personally, don't like them. The screens and the entrance just don't go together.

Here, here :P Another reason Indo should be moved up to on the priority is that it is the entrance for many visitors and a new Indo could be very impressive to them.

Are you talking about the videos screens Tapir26? If so I think they make a great addition to the front entrance.

Yes, that's what I'm talking about. They work, they are imformitive, but i find that they sort of, clash, with the entrance. The entrance has an older feel to it, and then to add the Video Screens, I find that they don't go so well together. Kind of like they were trying to out-weigh (can't think of a better word), not "co-operate", if that makes any sence.
