Toronto Zoo Toronto Zoo in the winter

Winter is here again and the snow has finally started. For me that means that the next trip to the zoo will likely be far off waiting for spring to sort things out. That got me wondering however about what the zoo is like in winter. I know the zoo has reduced hours during the winter and a lot of animals are probably off display, but that got me wondering a few things.

Are most outdoor animals off display now? Do some outdoor animals stay on display year round even in winter? If so, is there interesting behavior you can only see during the winter from them that you can't see during the rest of the year? Thanks to anyone who might have some answers to these questions.

Winter is my favorite time to go, no more endless crowds!

There are indeed a fair amount of animals off display (hippos, Greater Kudu, impala, baboons, etc), but many do stay on display, such as all the cats, hyenas, and of course all of the Canadian animals except the Lesser Snow Geese. If it's not too cold and/or icy, even the elephants come out. With the exception of the Scimitar Horned Oryx and some bird species I believe, all the Eurasian animals are out. I find the animals are much more active in this time of the year.

Actually the snow geese winter in the pond outside in the Mayan Temple.

Winter is my favourite time as well to visit the zoo. Actually i'll be visiting the zoo this weekend so thumbs up for good weather
