Thank you for answering my question.
In that case,as far as Canadian facilities go, Granby zoo is the best option.

I don't really understand the complaints when it comes to weather though. They only need to stay inside through the worst of the winter, how's that any different from the northern states of the US?

IMO that whole animal activism's arguement on cold climate not fitting elephants is obsolete and they do not get their facts straight.

Bob Barker and his ilk should go into space travel as far as I am concerned. As when they really would wish to do so good for Our Planet they would invest all those resources in better natural resource management and conservation.

thank u Quartz92 for answering me! :D

that's great that the Toronto zoo "MIGHT" be still thinking about spending 16.5 million on a new elephants exhibit!
its great that the offer is still on the table.

Yeah with regards to the cold weather argument, one could argue one can only own huskies and not beagles in Canada :P

Good point about the giraffes with regards to the elephant enclosure. Would Okapi or Bongo be ok for the exhibit I wonder? With modifications, of course.

No the grassy paddock facing the hyenas is the official giraffes exhibit. I know it needs to be refreshed!

i remembered there was a post awhile back talking about the orangutan outdoor exhibit will be where the Sumatran Tigers are, and the tigers will be located somewhere else or on the other side of the walkway. Does anyone know if this is true?

Thanks for answering my question Quartz! Good to know about Calgary. I guess the media around here is just as ignorant on where the elephants are going as Bob Barker is on our elephant issue. haha!

@Hyakko I agree winter weather in Canada is no different then the Northern states.

@Meaghan, I believe any animal could use the elephant exhibit with modifications. At the current moment it will take the zoo up to 2 years to move the elephants so I am sure the zoo will look into that when it comes time to, as of now there is more important things to look at aka PENGUINS!

@Damian, the orangutans will eventually get a new exhibit but from my understanding it will be located between the valley between Indo-Malaya and the Malayan Woods Pavilions, not where the tigers are located. Again, no plans have been drawn up for this yet.

To all who thanked me, you are very welcome and any more questions you may have I will be pleased to answer them! Just make sure they go in the appropriate threads thank you!

Had a little peice of information about the elephants, they won't be leaving for two years and thier going some where in the southern states, my mom got a private tour around the zoo and she meet a bunch of keepers.

As for new animals in the elephant enclosure, giraffes, but major reconstruction would be requierd, black rhinos, or use it for the hippos.

The Himalayan Tahr was born Sunday I was there, and actually showed up less than a minute after it happened. Cute overload...except for the after birth :S

Are you sure it was the Himalayan Tahr? These guys are only able to be seen from the zoomobile route, was it in the Eurasia section of the zoo? If so it was a mouflon because I know there was a few births there and as far as I know they are no tahrs in Eurasia.

I didn't actually see anything, just heard it announced on the ZooMobile while driving by the Himalayan Tahr enclosure. They stated that one Himalayan Tahr was born but didn't state the sex of it.

Sorry The one I saw was next to the main path. I don't know which it was as I usually don't spend much time at the mountain goat/sheep section.

Have the babirusas arrived at the zoo or are they still planned to be displayed with the gibbons?

They are still planned to go on exhibit with the gibbons and they should be at the zoo last I knew they were coming in early 2011.

Once again justify where this information is coming from please.

Nevermind I will take that back, I just opened my collections magazine and saw the update, it looks like Vitali and Tatiana are related and we will be getting a new female amur in the near future.

Just got back from the zoo and the babirusas were on display with the gibbons, I only saw one, not sure how many they have but it didn't look like the gibbons appreciated sharing their space lol one gibbon was chasing the babirusa around the enclosure.
