Toronto Zoo Toronto Zoo New Animals, Departures and Deaths 2012

I was about to post that but you beat me to the punch ;) Tasmanian Devils back again would be great, especially considering what the species is going through now.

So let me get this straight ? Have the babirusa been moved to the tapir exhibit ? Or are there still some in the gibbon exhibit as the original plan followed ? If that is no longer the case, what caused the move ?

I would think it would be more sensible to just have them in the Indo Pavilion with the gibbons, as then they wouldn't have to rotate with the tapir

Though tunnels are possible, they would be massive, they would need to be wide enough to fit both keepers and orang's. It makes more sense to extend out toward the board walk. Though I do believe that the pavillion will get a face lift, it may only be the orang/gibbion section and probaly done like the African Reno. I find it hard to believe they would remove/phase-out thier Gaurs, they have been very productive.

The little babirusa is adorable and as for Tatiana, she has been one of my favoriute animals at the zoo, and has been there since my first vist. She has held a special place in my heart and I will miss her greatly. RIP Tatiana.

I may have asked this before, but does the zoo plan to breed jaguars? And once Eurasia and the Canadian Wilderness renovations are done, are there plans for the Americas section? Or is just upgrades to various exhibits throughout the zoo?

And are there breeding plans for the spotted necked otters and komodo dragons?

@Zoogoer they were housed with the gibbons but they gibbons did not like them so they moved them to the Indian rhino house.

@Flixox No the zoo will not breed the current jaguars as they are brother and sister they will be turning 8 on the 25th of June. There are plans for the Americas to be converted to only Tropical Americas. However nothing has been solidified that far off into the future.

I am not sure of the otters but I do know the komodos are laying eggs.

I heard the news about the Guar and Generuk from Zoos Matter, not sure where the poster got the information from; maybe misinformation though.

Sad news about Tatiana.

The information came from Robin Hale, Chief Operating Officer for the zoo. He's also CAZA's president of the Board of Directors.

Terrible news about Tatiana.

Shalia (female gorilla) was sent to the Milwaukee Zoo a few weeks ago.

Vitali (male amur tiger) has been moved to the Sumatran tiger exhibit. Not sure if he is on display or how long he will be there as the zoo was waiting on permits to move him.

I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask but last time I was at the zoo about a week back, I noticed the River Hippo had a large growth on its right hind leg does anyone know anything about what it is?

Has Johari been moved to another zoo as well ?

No. From what I understand, it was Johari who was orginally scheduled to be moved, but it was determined that she wasn't independent enough yet (still relying on her mother), so Shalia was moved instead.

Samson has had that growth for at least 5 years now. The zoo is trying to avoid surgery, as they don't want to anethesize him. It actually seems smaller now than a couple of years ago when it was dragging on the ground.

We have a new Wattled Crane, her name is Curly Rita!

Also, I believe we will be expecting a baby Pygmy Hippo... anyone have anymore info on that?
