I just realized we were posting in the wrong thread! We were on the right track!

I am glad they have started! Ungulate do you know how long until you can really notice the construction? Or any other news?

To be honest, Quartz, I'm not even sure if the new Eurasia has come through the detailed design phase yet. And the plan for the geothermal stuff is that once they're done, you WON'T be able to see any results!

O that would explain it then:) i only go in there once a year, and even then i tend not to pay much attention, last time i was in there i thought it looked rather poor.....the praire dogs and other animals were not out on display and it made the area look very diserted, like i think 2 animal species (both birds) were out on display that day, trust me that day i looked hard

Any one have any idea as to an approx. date we can see the southside of the african pavillion finishing off? anyone wanna guess?:)....heck does anyone even know what they are doing really?

I go there a couple times, the animals are out only in certain times of the year and only after/before certain dates, and if they're not being used in a show at the moment.

I'm guessing somewhere in August at the latest.

OO okay:) Must have just been one of those days then, it was probably the 23rd of august of 2009 i went in there last and that's when i had this experience

Speaking of the Kids Zoo, I also noticed the Wild Turkeys have been moved from there to the old GreatHorned/Snowy Owl exhibit in the entrance to the Americas Pavillion

Most of the kids zoo animals go where ever there is space, so I have been told. There are only a few holding areas at the zoo that are usable in the winter. They may keep the dogs there for a while now as we only have Tatiana left. Given them more space and I am happy that it is still Geographic!

I have to place my bet on the last week in July for the opening, knowing my luck it will be in September. Only time will tell however I am very exited about this! It is too bad I ca not get decent pictures on the inside with construction going on.

Why then Quartz?
I know the zoo doesn't so much care about animals off exhibit, but don't you think they would push for the beginning of the summer months (busier time for them?) Could you at least describe what is going on inside?:)

Lmao, because they say the beginning of summer but I know how the construction industry works. Delays, delays and did I forget to mention delays. I am sure you get my point.

Walls, rock work, beginnings of paths you can see right know.

Was at the zoo today. Very, very RAINY!!
The Prehensile Tailed Porcupines were extremely active.
Observed the Red Pandas mating for quite a while, and watched the construction going on in the Rainforest. Lots of walls and a possible holding area being built( possibly for Mandrills). Would have taken pictures but it was raining to much( sorry for that).

Went to the Zoo today. Not too much new from a couple of weeks ago.

--Where the Damoiselle Crane was (Marco Polo Area) there is three new birds. Two are very active red falcons and the other looks to be some sort of vulture/osprey
--Camels were mating

The birds are their temporarily and it is a turkey vulture in one exhibit I believe it is Bill, and I also think the other birds are Harrison Hawks, these birds are used in the outreach presentations.

Just something fun for everyone to know:

My buddy who went with me to the zoo on sunday is a photographer and in one of his pictures, of the Outdoor Marsupial Exhibit in Australasia, actor Michael Cera (Superbad, Year One) was in the small crowd watching the Wombat.

not really a zoo topic per-say, but interesting none the less
