Nice to see the Tulsa Zoo new elephant exhibit coming of age. A welcome change from the old elephant area with all mod Cons inside and Sand Floors...!

The zoo has recently been teasing that the new Elephant Preserve Barn and Yard would be opening any week now. We went to the zoo today and it just so happened that the exhibit was open for the public! I uploaded lots of photos of the new facility from our visit today in the media section of the forum. The portion of the exhibit that is now complete is the 36,650-square-foot barn, indoor and outdoor guest viewing areas, and the new yard. This is just phase 1 of 3 for the Tulsa Zoo elephants. We noticed today that the old Elephant area is now fenced off and has started to receive extensive renovations. This comes in addition to the 10 acre Preserve Yard that is also under construction. This area will allow the elephants to roam freely in a natural space just behind the new facility. When it's all said and done the completed facility will be capable of holding muti-generational herds. The entire facility was very impressive and in my opinion puts Tulsa Zoo at the forefront of Asian Elephant care.
