Tulsa Zoo Tulsa Zoo News

According to the Zoo's Facebook page, white storks, African crowned cranes, and a bachelor herd of springbok have gone on display at the new Mary K. Chapman Rhino Reserve. These new species join the Zoo's 2 Southern with rhinos.

Would love to see some photos in the gallery if anyone has any.

Two female Asian elephants arrived at the zoo yesterday, from Ringling's Center for Elephant Conservation.

The zoo will be housing the post reproductive cow "Tova" long term, meanwhile the thirteen year old cow "Asha" will be returning to the CEC next spring- hopefully pregnant!
Given Sneezy's reproductive value, I wouldn't be surprised if we see several other CEC cows sent to Tulsa to breed in the near future!

The necropsy on elephant, Tova, revealed a nearly 10 lbs bladder stone as the most likely cause of her illness.

I've never had a kidney stone myself but from what I have heard they are extremely painful. I'm not surprised she stopped eating; she must have really been suffering.

There's really no treatment for something like that for an Elephant is there? I'm guessing that she wouldn't have passed it on her own and I know surgery on an animal that large is dicey.

Has anyone visited the Tulsa Zoo lately? I'm surprised the gallery hasn't been updated with photos of the new rhino exhibit that opened last year.

1.1 Maleo (Macrocephalon maleo) arrived in Tulsa from the Bronx in early February.
