Toronto Zoo Tundra Trek - Members Preview Nights

I think you mean arctic fox exhibit. It's good they're taking there time, then there's less of a chance something needs to be fixed in a years time (lets say). But it really shouldn't take so long. My two-floor school building was built in less than a year. And weren't they thinking that if they don't get it finished, how much of a dissapointment it would be to the public? Hopefully Eurasia won't take as long.

The arctic wolf exhibit has nothing to do with the management of the Toronto Zoo. That has to do with not having the exhibit complete on time because either the construction slowed or something changed.

The projects has been underway for almost 2.5 years which means it should be finished!

How can you assume that "construction slowing" or "something changed" don't have anything to do with zoo management? It's zoo management's job to get projects done on time--they apparently didn't in this case.

Construction slowing is when construction time is increased in length because of delays by the construction workers.
Something changing would be as in the addition to the animal habitats taken from a zookeepers perspective on animal welfare.

And aren't the foxes already at the zoo? The zoo really needs to get rushing on this

Yes, Zoogoer the foxes are at the zoo and I think its dissapointing that the zoo marketed the foxes to be on display but now they won't be. Unless, they choose to put them in the Arctic wolf holding yard for the opening until the new exhibit is built.

Hi all,
Today was Inukshuk's first day in the new (grass) exhibit. It went very well ... the girls may get their first go tomorrow. The wolves and snowy owls are expected to be moved at the end of this week. No news yet on the reindeer, and nothing on the foxes ...

Thanks for the update. Its painful waiting for an opening. I hope the new exhibits look great!

I was talking to Meaghan on Facebook the other night and we were dicussing the foxes

We decided that maybe instead of keeping them in the health centre, they should just wait until the snowy owls move to the new aviary and then tweek the old aviary and place the foxes in there until there new exhibit is built

To be honest, I really think that the holding area for the wolves will be the temp. exhibit for the foxes. The reason I think the foxes will be housed there is because the zoo has built a wooden fence on the back of the exhibit. Its possible that they may be housed there. 10 days until public opening and 8 days until members preview!!

The Arctic Wolves have been moved into the holding area in the tundra.
Saw about four of them in there today. The Wolves can no longer be seen in the Canadian Domain, except for one older Male wolf and possibly another to keep him company. Also the Whale skeleton is completely put together but it is just lying in the grass.

Thanks for the head's up! I imagine they probably didn't move the older wolf because the zoo was thinking about his well being and thought a move might stress him too much.

The wolves are in the main exhibit area as of today. I saw 5 or 6 of them walking around together, but there may have been more but I wasn't sticking around because of the heavy rain.

Yes - all eight wolves (4.4) have been moved from the Domain to the new exhibit. Today was their first day in the exhibit itself, and it sounds like they had a ball!

The geese and owls have not moved in yet, and the reindeer will be coming over on Tuesday.

Thank you for the info on the wolves, its good to here construction is coming to a close

Just a question, what is going to replace the wolves, reindeer and snowy owl in there old enclosures?

Probably nothing where the wolves are, maybe an extra exhibit for another animal. Possible a stray coyote? Reindeer exhibit probably nothing because that area will be renovated next to make Eurasia. The Snowy Owl possibly another American bird of prey or another owl like they had before the snowy owls arrived.

Looks like another opportunity knocked me in the face! One of my friends who works at the zoo has invited me to go see the Tundra Trek on the 28! I am very excited!

Have fun! Take piccies :D

I'm glad to hear how the wolves are enjoying their new home! I know with my Shiba Inu, she loves to run in wide open spaces (safely confined!). Maybe the same holds true for wolves?

I will take a lot of pictures and post when I can, hopefully my camera works this time!
