Toronto Zoo Tundra Trek - Members Preview Nights

As for Tundra Trek preview pictures I am sorry but my memory cars isn't loading. Ill try to fix it.

As for the exhibits all I can say is WOW, what an improvement. Ill post a review with pictures in the future as I don't want to spoil any suprises.

Believe me I will still be going on the 30 and still cant wait for then. But I am not giving out spoiliers :p

Whoa, the polar bear is exhibit looks AWESOME! Do the polar bears have that whole forest area? And why is there hotwire between the polar bears?

Good questions! I did see some pics of one of the bears in a grassy area. The hotwire's a little distracting, that's my only "issue" so to speak, but it still looks terrific, though (and a trillion times better than their old exhibit) and the bears look like they really enjoy it. Although I only saw one picture of a wolf in its new enclosure, it too looks way better.

Here's some more pics:

The hotwire is to seperate the new exhibit from the old, refursbished enclosure

The bear in the new enclosure is Inukshuk and the two in the old yard are Nikita and Aurora

The pictures look AMAZING!

I don't see why they need to separate the new enclosure to the old one. We want them to breed. :P

As far as I know, I don't think the zoo has even introduced Inuk to Niki and Aurora. its proabably going to be alittle while before there fully introduced

Its not that they don't want them to breed eventually, I think the fence is partly for the reason above and for management purposes

Example...

Lets say Aurora and Inuk breed (Aurora has actually been pregnant before, but she lost the cub in utero)

It would be more flexible if they had the two yards so Aurora and the cubs could be in one yard with Niki and Inuk in the other

It would also help if both girls had cubs becuase each mother and her cubs could have a yard and they could rotate beetween the three Inuk (There is a third maternity yard plus holding)

As much as hotwire does bother me sometimes, I actually dont mind this form of it

It allows a less obstructive barrier than a large wall and is more flexible than a moat (Although I probably would have liked if there was a hidden moat so it would all look like one huge yard)

Sorry to post once again for the third time, but I just had a little question that popped into my mind whilst I was looking at pictures of the exhibit again

Does the second, new exhibit contain a pool as well?

After looking at one of the photos, it does seem as if there is a moat separating the two enclosures. I think the hotwire is there so that the bears don't try to jump the moat.

Oh, your right!

It appears that the hotwire runs throught the moat

Good eyes and thank you!

I agree the hotwire is a bit of an eyeshore but it seperates the two enclosures while providing the bears to see each other. I don't think the hotwire is temporary, and I am sure we will all have more pictures to examine what is there.

Here's a video I found of the new polar bear exhibit.

In that video you can see that there are two sets of hotwirse on both sides of a moat. Can't wait for tonight!!!

Yep! the member's preview is only at night? Because if it is why is there people in the video?

Because they had a V.I.P/Staff previews on the 28 and 29. Staff were allowed to bring gets, i.e. childrens, friends, etc. Members preview is tonight and tomorrow (30 & 31).
