Taronga Western Plains Zoo TWPZ Updates

A beautiful baby Addax is on display. I neary caused an accident when I saw the lil one sitting under a tree. it is just over a week old and very cute.

Not sure, two have only recently arrived at the zoo though.

I checked ISIS and have answered my own question

According to ISIS, here are all the addax in the country:

Dubbo: 1.1

Monarto: 10.3

Werribee: 8:12

with a

Regional Subtotal: 19.16

According to the Addax ARR, some are held at the Mary River Ranch (in NT?) as well but these are not part of the ZAA program.

:)

Sorry. What I was meant to say is

According to ISIS, these are all the addax in the country in listed zoos to ISIS, or something less confusing then that! :p

I'm heading out to do a bit of shooting on sunday nad plan to spend a couple of hours at the zoo. Is the new entrance open? I was last out there in june and they were doing a fair bit of work. is it still a construction site more than a zoo? Going anyway just asking.

:D:D ;);)jarkari, if it's possible could you train the maned wolf to pose for photos before sunday. i've been going to the WPZ for years but have never got a decent photo ; )

if one wlks out of the lignum out where i'm going. It could happen. stranger things have happened. might even get a pygmy hippo. :p

Sorry boof, me and maned wolf don't get on that great. I think they are awesome animals but Senna, the one I feed is really nervous of me for some reason.

The new visitor plaza won't be completed until after the school holidays. So the main building is still under construction, only a couple of weeks left til handover but it'll be in the middle of the holidays so we will be waiting to move in until after the busy parts so we can adjust to the new areas. The Bongo exhibit is now closed until further notice and the koala enclosure/new macropod walkthrough is still being built.
Meerkat Renovations were started and completed this week but they will be off display shortly to meet a new female from NZ (three others off to Canberra after they finish their quarantine).
Bahkita and Kufara are being taken off display but will be replaced with another rhino.
Primates are all on their original Islands, the two black and white ruff groups were merged so now there is one vacant island at the Gibbon Lake.

Other then that the renos are done on most of the enclosures and the new Eland/Addax nightyards are taking shape.

Also just in time to see a new zebra foal.

Hope this helps

Does anyone know who the sire is? It could be Zahra, the father of the previous foal.

Zoo opens new tourism drawcard - ABC Western Plains NSW - Australian Broadcasting Corporation

The new visitor plaza is open. Initially I was a bit hesitant about this but I went in there on thursday and it's really nice. New viewing decks for the primates have been built getting you surprisingly close to the ring tailed lemur Island. You now don't stop at the gate, you park your car, go into the visitor plaza and pay your entry, you can also book encounters, tours, bikes and carts at the one area, rather than going to three differnt parts. The visitor plaza (including the primate islands) and the new safari park playground are free so more locals can go out and take advantage of them. or if your driving through Dubbo and don't have time to see the zoo it's still a nice spot to stop for a coffee and watch the lemurs and spider monkeys.
