The sea-lions were euthanised, the female with pup at the time of euthanasia. Xenon dispatched to make way for the new enclosure. The thick sludge he swam in was awful......
Was the male South American Sealion, who was put down so that the Bush Dog and Coati enclosure, could be created so that there wouldn't be an exhibit in the zoo,or an animal species that had health problems due to the poor standard of the exhibit,Sorry if this sounds stupid, but who is Xenon and what do you mean by 'The thick sludge he swam in was awful......'?
I'm concerned a few bits on this thread today seem a bit libellous. It's not that I'm disagreeing as I don't actually know the ins and outs, my concern is should someone be writing this stuff down in the public domain?
My concern was for the poster as it sails very near the edge.
As I said I can't dispute what has or hasn't happened as I don't know. I'm not offended by your post at all. I do love twycross but I know it's far from perfect. Hopefully with the recent changes its going in the right direction - it certainly feels it, going by the atmosphere there.

as Gerald Durrell once said "somebody has to stick up for the animals as they cannot write letters to the Times or go to see their M.P."
I think facts about events that occurred in the animal collection in the past are acceptable. References to people involved probably aren't.
Hi
in Miss Badhams day the older keeper were respected and not treated like they were thick they were treated with respect and part of the family just because they had no qualifications they new their animals far better than the ones with qualifications who are there now, I agree the people in charge now should respect the ones that are left if there are any left ? in the days of Miss B and Miss E they knew the keepers knew their animals not like today I feel they are just a commodity.
Animals were not put to sleep for the sake of it, the previous CEO has a lot to answer for bringing in things that belong in a Theme park it is a shame the previous CEO the one that resigned took over I just hope and pray they can bring it back to how it was before she took over what a mistake that was.
All I can say is Molly is still there she walks her precious zoo keeping an eye on it.
I wouldn't want the zoo to go back to how it was husbandry and enclosure wise I'd hate to see 'my' precious chimps back in their old enclosures.
If you mean that feeling of family, then yes that would be good.
On the theme park side, I don't think it's any worse (and possibly better) with its balance of non-animal things than any other collection.
There needs to be commercial success and forward thinking management, fingers crossed its here now.
Well I am struggling how to see a FACT can be libellous, when the persons involved were not named, but seeing as people don't want to know the truth of whats IS STILL going on at Twycross,I will stop posting it so that people can continue to live in the rose tinted version of the zoo world, that many people on this site seem to want to live!!I'm concerned a few bits on this thread today seem a bit libellous.
