Twycross Zoo Twycross Zoo News 2023

I'm not a stupid person but I found the use of the word 'Annual' for two different categories of entry(i.e 'Annual Pass'/ 'Annual Membership') confusing also. I understand it now but standing in a frustratingly long queue and seeing the word 'Annual' being bandied about everywhere was a bit confusing to say the least. After a number of other complaints I have since read about the delayed entry problems of this last week, I presume they may be tweaking their system a bit for the upcoming holiday weeks. We just happened on a bad time I think.:(
Hopefully they can design a barcode that contains your annual ticket as well as your day ticket . That will really speed things up

I'd agree with most of the comments on here. The orang enclosure in particular is hideous, but I don't think we should forget the progress that the zoo has made so far. The chimps in particular are no longer in those hideous cages.

Does anyone know the gorillas origins?
I know Asante was born at Twycross but where did Ozala, Biddy and Oumbi came from?

Lope has been moved into where the 1.0 L’hoest monkey lived in the old bonobo enclosure. He will be leaving later in the year to a new zoo
Interesting.... When I saw him a week ago he seemed to still be fine with Oumbie though I noticed he was spending a lot of time on his own outside looking for ant nests. Maybe there were underyling tensions between them. I also thought the renovation of the old Bonobo House might be in preperation for him too.

I went to Twycross today, lots of things to report. The old howler monkey enclosure near gibbon forest and guest services is being renovated. It seems that the CEO is wanting to renovate and upgrade and the primates accommodation what I am a fan off.

I went over to the flamingos where the keepers looked stressed as from what I heard over the radio and keepers talking they lost a flamingo. The pelicans no longer live in the pond with the flamingos and I couldn’t find them anyway.

I went to the Spider Monkey and next to them now houses 1.0 L’hoest monkey who has moved over to where the Dusky Langur used to live while Lope (the gorilla) moves into the old bonobo exhibit while they prepare for his move. I went back over to the flamingos where they closed it off and I could see keepers searching through the enclosure.

The Meerkat enclosure now has a mural on it, not sure im a fan of it personally but I supposed it’s to make it look better for the visitors. Next to them in one of the aviary’s closest to the Orangs houses a pair of Ecuadorian Amazon Parrot. They only just arrived. It’s good to finally see some new species come into Twycross.

The De Brazza’s Monkey glass viewing area (open topped enclosure) has been painted with a rainforest theme to it.

The Vicuña baby is doing well and looks very healthy, it’s up about and about and playing with mom while they are separated from the other female and male in the other enclosure next door.

Overall the new CEO is making good changes and he’s only been in the job for a few months now and I’m excited to see what he does next for the zoo.

When I went last week there were two L'Hoests in this enclosure near the DikDik. Either a pair or two males. I think you maybe missed one of them.

I am sad about Lope, he is such a character, but of course this is positive as it is what would happen in the wild. He’ll be missed, but will hopefully go on and have his own group one day. When are the gorillas scheduled for development on the 2030 Masterplan? I can’t see it on the website.

Given his genetic representation, I think he's more likely to stay in a male group longterm, but you never know.

Hi does anyone know the full family tree of twycross orangs? They have had a lot like molly and Kayan and another female move in recent years and I’m wondering if they are all related
