Uk help to find

I don't understand why they wouldn't put their full collection, I'm now more inclined to visit.

They publish an Annual inventory listing all of the animals in the ZSL collections. It'd be a lot of work to illustrate every taxon online and keep the pages updated - not to mention it might be daunting for members of the public. :)

Many thanks to everyone who helped me before and I managed to get around 75% of the species mentioned either on film or by Photograph

I now have one question (I would use Zootierliste but UK side a little unsure) What Hornbills are kept in UK Public captive collections I do know of 5 Private collections that hold some Hornbill species many thanks

Not quite true; there was a short-lived golden snub-nosed monkey at London Zoo before World War 2

Very interesting :) that will need adding to ZTL then!

Further to my earlier post:-

The Zoological Society of London Annual Report for 1939 records that a golden snub-nosed monkey was received that year; according to this report it was the first time the species had been represented in the London Zoo collection.

I believe that this animal was brought to London by Floyd Tangier Smith (who supplied London Zoo’s first giant pandas in December 1938).

If I remember rightly, this would be the animal referred to in Desmond Morris's 'Men and Pandas', was actually dying when Floyd Tangier Smith brought it into the country.

Did they have them in 2010 then? As that location would make sense, as I remember seeing them after the Maned Wolves.

The following Hornbill species are not listed in any UK collections on Zootierliste web site, I was wondering if any of them are in the UK and have been overlooked or not put on the web site.

Floyd Tangier Smith and his golden snub-nosed monkey were both ill with TB when they arrived in London.

ZTL seems to take an 'ultra-splitters' approach to Rhyticeros plicatus. Many authorities don't recognise the subspecies as valid, as "variation appears to be largely clinal, with overlap in size and colours" (HBW). So the Papuan Hornbills in Britain could belong to one or more of these supposed subspecies.
[I also don't know why ZTL uses the name 'New Guinea hornbill' for dampieri - which isn't found on the mainland of New Guinea, but on the islands of the Bismarck Archipelago]
I'd advise folk not to treat ZTL as though it were the unquestionable Word of God.

I use ZTL as a guide these days as there are too many mistakes especially in the UK collections.

Also there are a lot of the smaller collections not even mentioned in the UK section, that was why I opened a thread on small collections in the UK forum.

Anyway many thanks for your info MikeG

Mostly because certain individuals whom I will not mention keep deleting anything they have not seen personally, or which are not mentioned on the collection website :p

That would be a question for the ZTL administrators I suppose :p though you never know, maybe now I've called them out obliquely they might actually stop doing it.

London Zoo's first hoatzin was acquired in 1931 but it wasn't the "sole holding in Europe".
London Zoo also had the species in 1955.

I believe there are some Bobcat left in the UK, all private. I'm sure someone like @TeaLovingDave can confirm :)
