Hey. Next week i’m going to visit a zoo but i’m undecided on which to go to. In people’s opinions, what would be the best zoo that is within a 2 hour distance from sheffield, excluding chester zoo and knowsly safari as i’ve already been there. Thanks!

Lakeland Wildlife Oasis is a real little gem, nice place, nice people, quirky collection

We’ve just realised hamerton is about 1hour 50 minutes. Is hamerton worth the trip

I would certainly say so - I tend to make the trip at least twice a year from Chesterfield. It's not as large as some of the others but if you like unusual animals there's few places to match it in the UK.

If you're close enough to the M1 for Hamerton to come in at under 2hr then Woburn will be a similar drive time and Whipsnade probably only 2hr15 or so as well - all great options.

During my UK trip, I did Yorkshire, Birmingham and Chester from the Sheffield branch of the trip. I also did Hamerton/Old Hurst off the London branch which were also discussed here and within the range specified.

Birmingham Wildlife Conservation Park is the only one that hasn't been mentioned -- I felt it was a pretty fun little stop and a lot of the space is used very well and it's dense, pretty packed with smaller species. The nocturnal areas are a highlight, with some spectacularly showy potto, as well as a lot of smaller primates in the park. Bush dogs were also a highlight. The Sitatunga, rhea and Komodo Dragon offer a couple larger species too. You could finish here in a couple hours but I stayed a bit longer.
