CREAMY the White-naped Crane has passed away at the advanced age of 44.
Utica Zoo on Instagram: "It is with heavy hearts that the Utica Zoo shares the news regarding the passing of Creamy. Our beloved male White-naped crane recently passed away due to his advanced age. Creampuff, or better known amongst his zoo keepers as ‘Creamy’, lived an extraordinary life. He was one of the oldest White-naped cranes in the country until his death at age 44. The Utica Zoo is privileged to have had him for the last 14 years. Him and our female White-naped crane, Peaches, made a recognizably great couple. His dedicated zoo keepers say he had an enthusiastic, playful spirit, was always highly invested in his enrichment activities, and was often seen dancing or calling with Peaches. Despite veterinary treatment efforts to better his mobility, staff made the difficult decision to humanely euthanize Creamy and provide him with a peaceful send-off. His partner, Peaches, is currently being monitored since the White-naped crane is a social species. The zoo has plans in place to acquire a male companion for her in the upcoming months. Creamy was a vital member of the Utica Zoo’s history, and will be dearly missed by many. Rest in Peace, Creamy. "
