Cotswold Wildlife Park and Gardens Visiting

Walrus for Cotswold?

I have heard all these mentioned by a very senior member of staff apart from the Walrus,at least 2 of these are now off the zoo wish list, and a few others added insted.

I can imagine all or any of these being added to their collection. The 'odd one out' for me is Walrus- rarely kept in captivity, quite difficult to maintain in good health, would require elaborate new housing plus Cotswold have no experience of Pinnipeds, even the commoner species. So it seems a very odd choice. Is it just a myth?

Well I personnaly think that Cat-man mis-heard what was been said to him and his love of Marine mammals got the better of him,the only problem is I`ve no idea what it could be if its not a Walrus:confused:,unless the member of staff said it tongue in cheek to see if it would get posted on here,as I know this has been done by the staff of at least 1 U.K collection.;)

no my love of marine mammals has not gotten the better of me!
I swear, he had shown us a pic of one and explaind that they would like one! even if it seems more realistic the, aquaring seals or calafornia sealions!

Saying they'd like one, and actually getting them are two very different things.;) I could see them (hypothetically, please note) having Californian sealions though I hope they wouldn't just put them in their waterfowl lake- a special saltwater pool and enclosure should be built first- however they don't seem to be on the 'wanted' list anyway.

Wanting one and actually doing something about getting one are to completely different things, personnaly I think that they will not bring in any species of the Pinnipedia order to the collection,as I don`t think they could do it right without spoiling the feel of the park!

Certainly none currently or recently. I don't think they ever have had any (couldn't swear to it though).

oh right. Thanks. Just another quick question, Have they ever held hippo? Just i think they would be really suited to CWP.

Hippo's would be a very difficult animal to keep. They are very strong and very expensive for example Whipsnade's Common Hippo's have an indoor pool and houses.Aswell as 2 outdoor paddocks with a river going through it.
It would be a very costly move for Cotswold. Not one I would advise.

I was just thinking about pygmys really. Colchesters new female baby would look great there.

Sounds like you think she'd match the curtains! :D

'If they're gonna put a female pygmy hippo calf by the window they'll need to move the lamp to the other end of the mantel or the whole room will look overbalanced...'

Much as I'm in favour of more zoos keeping hippos, I can't see them coming to Cotswold any time soon.

Thanks very much needed a good laugh today many thanks!

what maguari? dont get it sorry :(

Don't worry - just the way you said that particular animal would 'look good there' sounded like someone rearranging the furniture! :p
