The moves of the Valencia/Paira Daiza walruses have been quite complicated;

1. 2019. The three females Tania, Petruska and Ninotchska due to move to new exhibit in Paira Daiza...but initially moved from Valencia to Hamburg(for mating) to coincide with the 2020 breeding period..

2. March 2020, Tania and the young Hamburg-bred male Thor transferred to Paira Daiza.

3. December 2020, The second ex Valencia female Petruska, joins them from Hamburg.

4. Just a couple of months later Petruska returns to Hamburg, where she currently is, for the 2021 breeding period to try and get her pregnant, having failed in 2020. (Therefore PD have gone from 1.1 to 1.2 and currently back to 1.1. again)

5. Revealed that Tania at PD is pregnant from the 2020 Hamburg breeding window.

6. The third ex Valencia female Ninotchska is still to move from Hamburg to PD.

Tierpark Hagenbeck reports today that on February 19, 16-year-old Walrus Raisa has passed away. Raisa arrived in Hamburg in 2015 after an exchange with Dolfinarium Harderwijk. Despite several matings with the bull Odin, she never became pregnant herself. But with the youngest addition to the group, Fiete, she had taken on a sort of aunt role.

The autopsy showed that she died of heart failure, a pathological examination also found chronic damage to the heart. Further investigations are still underway.

Of the 18 walruses in North America, 5 (3.2.0) reside at two facilities in Canada, and 13 (4.9.0) reside at four facilities in the United States. Of the 12 walruses in Europe, 2 (1.1.0) reside at a facility in Belgium, 6 (2.4.0) reside at a facility in Germany, and 4 (1.3.0) reside at a facility in the Netherlands. Of the 24 walruses in Russia, 2 (1.1.0) reside at two facilities in Asian Russia, and 22 (8.14.0) reside at eight facilities in European Russia. Of the 49 walruses in Asia, 17 (6.11.0) reside at ten facilities in China, 26 (6.20.0) reside at nine facilities in Japan, 2 (0.2.0) reside at two facilities in South Korea, and 4 (1.3.0) reside at a facility in Thailand. I remember SeaWorld San Diego last year applied for a permit to import one female captive-born walrus from Kamogawa Sea World Japan. Was the permit granted and are they still waiting to import the walrus?

I've been following this request since December 2019 and as far as I've seen a notice of approval has never been publically posted. The Marine Mammal Commission recommended that the permit be approved, but they have filed complaints at least twice since that the US Fish and Wildlife Service has never responded within the timeline that they were expected to have done so. The walrus in question, Lilou, is currently still housed at Kamogawa.

Well that's frustrating. Would be nice to get another walrus.
 
Dolfinarium Harderwijk will stop keeping walruses, the park announced today in a press conference about changes in the park.

Two walruses from Dolfinarium Harderwijk are moving to Hainan Ocean Paradise in China, probably at the end of 2021 or early 2022. A new home is being sought for the other two walruses.
 
Pairi Daiza just announced on Facebook that two walrus, a male and a female named Garik and Frosya, both 8 years old, have arrived from Russia, and are quarantined in the exhibit on the right side of the walrus facility (presumably the smaller of the two exhibits). The male has important genetics and is hoped to become a breeder male in the future.

Searching in this thread I found Garik listed under "St. Petersburg dolfinarium" in 2018, but could not find any record of Frosya.
