Welt der Gifte (Salzburg) Welt der Gifte Salzburg - News and Discussion

Thank you:). However, I'd recommend to wait with your return a bit till the move is completely finished and the little vipers have grown to a more representative size.

Well, given the fact we've still not fully recovered energy-wise from our three week trek around Central Europe, it'll be a while before we even think of stirring ourselves again! :D

Indeed. I was already wondering why you haven’t written any travelogue about your trip yet.

Our oldest rattlesnake, a massive West Mexican rattlesnake called "Tom Riddle", unfortunately passed away this week due to age-related health reasons. The week before, I had finally managed to find an adult female for this rarely displayed species. He was a gentle giant and a visitor favourite.:(

Only last week did I realize "gift" in German means "poison" or "venom." Up until now I thought "Welt der Gifte" meant "World of Gifts," and was a gift shop selling presents and souvenirs, that also had a reptile house on the side.

Then let's hope that you'll finally understand the giftshop pun...maybe in another five years? ;)

And a snake in the snack.

How old did he get?

How old did he get?
IDK. I got him as a big adult with a rattle that, despite being long, had originally been even longer, according to the previous owner. Speaking of previous owners: he had quite a lot of them, so nobody knows how old he really was.

Why haven't you visited WdG yet, ever so curious @Lota lota ? ;)
Haha, just curious since I think most members would love to visit a zoo that is run by zoochater. And I'am a minor,so unless my family goes to Austria it's impossible for me to visit. But with my 18th birthday being next year,my first visit to wgd isn't probably that far into the future.:p

Progress regarding the new venue:

- New floor finished
- Electrician and painter coming next week
- Delayed safety door delivery

New animals for 2023:
- Could get either a juvenile Eastern Green (Dendroaspis angusticeps) or a very old (probably WC) Jameson’s mamba (D. jamesoni). Rather leaning forward to the first.
- Will rather improve existing enclosures than getting lots of new species. Sorry, species "stamp" collectors...;)
