West Midland Safari and Leisure Park West Midland Safari Park 2024

I’ve seen the announcement that the new African wild dog and hippo lodges are available to start booking. I believe both are getting new enclosures, and from the concept art it looks like they might be next to each other - but if that’s the case I can’t work out how they’re going to fit them in. Does anyone know more about where they’re going ?

I thought they were going by the hippos ie backing on to them and it will be a new area for the wild dogs I believe that one of the lodges you would be able to see both animals but not sure

Hippos are getting the land behind them on the former giraffe and ungulate houses. They have grazing land and new bathing pool. The current river is to be drained aerated and filtered and then refilled with a new pump to removed the hippos effect on the rest of the river system. Wild dogs will be next to this on the former rhino house and yard.

It looks impressive doesn't it. The Hippos will love their new pool

New arrival already (taken from Facebook)

WATCH the moment our white rhino, Keyah, gives birth to a beautiful baby girl!

She arrived in the early hours of 11th January and Keepers have named her Malaika, which means 'angel' in Swahili

She'll be keeping warm inside her house for a few weeks until guests will be able to see her bounding around on the Safari Drive-through!

Drain the swamp...!
At long last they are doing something about this. I'm not sure if this means the hippos will again have access to this river area or not though I read it as they will?

Yes they will have the river again once its filled back up. The new filter will remove more hippo waste and reduce the impact on the rest of the river system further down like the two lakes

Will be visiting this Saturday.
Could anyone please give me a list of which species are in each area please?

There are 0.2 Ankole cattle in African plains. Water buffalo have all passed away. 2.0 Blesbok in the grasslands.

Last time I went- after the Hunting Dog escape, there were just three female Persian Fallow deer left. I'd be interested to know if the number is still the same or if they have sourced another male?

West Midlands Safari Park have just announced their new logo, apparently following on from the 50th anniversary celebrations.

It’s certainly an interesting change, I’m not sure if it’s too child-friendly or not, though at least they’ve removed the ‘Leisure Park’ bit of the title. In any case, I’m sure I’ll warm to it, Chester’s rebrand was somewhat contentious on here when it happened and now it’s so iconic it’s hard to imagine Chester without it.

Fixes the slightly odd naming (West Midland vs West Midlands that’s always looked strange) and looks fun. The old one (the name on a background) was hardly iconic so can’t hurt to change it. Good time to do it with the anniversary too gets a bit of brand awareness going.

There are lots of new developments happening according to the website for 2024 however this one caught my eye (especially having seen their current enclosure) Interesting that they are now down to 4 hippos so another female must have died in the last 12 months

Observe the UK’s largest pod of hippopotamus, as they relax in their new environment, complete with natural pools, mud wallows and grazing space. Watch from the new viewing areas, as the hippos take a dip, or learn more about the four girls: Mavis, Hilary, Gussie and Friday, from the information points.

After the exciting news about 2 elephants Suzy (40) and Gutana (43) coming to West Midland Safari Park later this year and once they settled in they will be introduced to Five another female elephant and bull elephant Coco and fingers crossed there will be a herd of 4 and in the future a pitter patter of elephant feet
