West Midland Safari and Leisure Park West Midland Safari Park News 2022

how many white tigers do they have now. some one said 2.0 yet 3 names are listed. can someone confirm please or are the names above refering two 2 white tigers and another yellow one

Hujan is definitely the Sumatran, so Ben & Buster must be the 2:0 white tigers, presumably both are in their late teens.

yep its bad for white tigers now. didnt know another one had passed at wmsp as i know 3 were there a couple of years back. i think only 4 exist in england all in their teenage years 2 at wmsp 1 at hamerton and 1 at smarden wildife cat santuary. i know the ethics is bad but it would be nice to keep a couple in england since some countries in the world have a fair few.

You are aware of the negative aspects of maintaining a captive population of white tigers and yet want good zoos to ignore this and keep them anyway?

I went yesterday - had a good time (got closer to the hippos than I have before and I got to feed a giraffe!). I saw Tiger Tropics and thought it was great - however, I am wondering why the Goat Walk is closed (it just said for "future exciting developments").

One thing bugs me...

Has anyone noticed that there are taxidermised pelicans scattered around the walk-round section? There was one in the aquarium and one in the Ice Age section. And those are the two I noticed.

What on Earth does that mean, if anything?

I had a tour with a keeper a few weeks ago and near the goats they will be building lion lodges! For the juvenile male lions to live in, it will be a exciting addition

Another thing the keeper told me was that they will be expecting a male elephant from Colchester zoo and they will be sending the male that already lives there to Noah’s ark zoo (if I remember correctly)

Is that Sutton then moving to Noah ark ? And I wonder if they think five can reproduce again with Tempo. Who hasn’t had great luck with his cows at Colchester. Maybe this is what he needs and it’s a learning experience to be a bull elephant for Sutton

I’m not very confident on their elephants name lol but yes I think Sutton is the male elephant at WMSP

When is the arrival of Tembo expected (if you know), as this seems to be a bit of a change of direction for WMSP.
There was a lot that I found out when I spoke to a keeper on my visit to Colchester Zoo about 2 months ago, but one of those things was that at the moment they are planning on settling the elephants down with the new routines (moving into PC), and not breeding or moving the elephants around to just calm everything down. Tembo moving in the near future would frankly not really follow that (although plans can change).
I also mentioned when I posted this news and more in African Elephants in Europe and Colchester Zoo news threads that I was also told (if I remember correctly) that Tembo was no longer able to breed, so either way would probably not be breeding if he moved to WMSP.
However, if any of this is true it is big news for these groups of elephants that have all been heavily speculated over previously.

Hang on. Is this to start a breeding programme for African Elephants at West Midland Safari Park ?

Any idea as to the significance of the taxidermised pelicans?

I thought there was a planned ban on the breeding of African Elephants in the UK? Hence the reason Mr Aspinall thought it would be best to send his Elephants back to Africa.

So tell me Pandaboi. Why would Sutton going to Noah's Ark Zoo Farm ?

tell you what it'll be really good as I said before about the future plan is to bring in new elephants to West Midlands Safari Park so that they can breed
It would be amazing to see African Elephant baby’s! I’m quite excited for the future

I’m not quite sure, Maybe to breed? I don’t know much about African elephants in the UK but I thought it would be good information post on here incase anyone was interested in it

Noah's Ark holds a bachelor group. They are not a breeding facility. As said above, I'm pretty sure, African Elephant's are a recommendation not to be bred in the UK anymore. This was part of the reason, Howletts wanted to rewild theirs now. I was told this by Elephant keepers at Howletts and also Noa's Ark keepers said similar about African Elephants.

ah I didn’t know they only held a bachelor group, maybe just to join the males there then?

Would the best option for West Midlands to be home to a small bachelor herd like noah's ark. Never actually seen the new elephant enclosure but it looks like it has 3 outdoor sections and not sure about the inside though. If tembo is to move, could five then move to Colchester or blair drummond to be with their loan female. However, female Elephants don't seem to do as well with travel than the males because fives sister latabe died just a few days after the move and a female knowsley passed away whilst moving to France. I think a bachelor herd here would be good because with the 3 outdoor enclosures the Elephants could be separated during conflicts. Correct me if I'm wrong tho because I don't follow much about West Midlands safari
