Over the years, my interests have changed a lot, but my interest in zoos and animals has always been there, often not my main focus, but always on my mind to some extent. Right now, I am going through a football phase of sorts, as a massive Crystal Palace fan, and I have a feeling that this interest will last me for quite some time, but it will never overtake zoos as my priority, I don't think. Sadly, as this interest has developed so late into my life, I never got to play at a young age, and as such, really aren't that good at it, but as far as watching it goes, it is the closest contender to zoos and animals for my biggest interest.
I also love bike rides, especially in foreign countries, but often that is because I find ways to tie it into zoos - earlier this year, I cycled 500 kilometres in just six days along the river Elbe in Germany, which was fun in and of itself, but more so because it brought me where I needed to be to visit Tierpark Hagenbeck and Zoo Magdeburg. I plan on continuing this trip next year, which will bring me to Prague, and possibly Zoo Dresden as well. As of a trip to Austria in January, skiing is also developing into an interest of mine, although given how expensive proper skiing holidays are, I will have to settle for the all-indoor slopes at Milton Keynes for the time being.
On the topic of foreign holidays, learning foreign languages is always fun, especially when I am using zoo guidebooks or continental football to help me out! Currently learning German, Dutch and French, although struggling to do all three at once and may have to pick one to focus on at a time. And, although it sort of counts as animals, dinosaurs fascinate me, especially the giant sauropods - now that the Natural History Museum in London has a skeleton of Patagotitan mayorum on temporary display, I could spend hours in that room in awe at it. If only it could be permanent!
