What does your user-name mean?

My name has my favorite animal, the Ethiopian wolf (Although this sometimes changes to other Ethiopian animals). I come from the country and I am proud of the rare wildlife that comes from my home. 03 means 2003 the year I was born.

Mine is derived from my favorite animal, the Mongolian Wild Horse and my favorite period of time, the Pleistocene. I thought we’d spend a lot more time discussing the concept of Pleistocene Re-wilding and zoo exhibits based on Beringia here on Zoochat. ;) I’ve been thinking a lot of just changing it to Chrisinalaska.

My username is a name that I have gone by on the internet for years so it has just stuck. Paleo comes from my love for paleontology and well you can guess where Matt comes from.

Vogel means bird in Dutch ( and in German too ) and this because birds are the group of animals I've the most experience with. Commando is a part of the dutch armee which is in english known as the special forces. During my time in the armee I was in the special forces and one of our 'goals' was to observe the enimy - at that time ( beginning 1980-ties ) this were the Russians. Because very few walked around in the Netherlands at that time ;) I spend much time observing birds and among the other soldiers I became known as 'de vogel-commando'.

More "vogelcommandos" ;) :

As for my own, Chlidonias is a genus of terns, and the day before I joined up I'd just seen a whiskered tern (Chlidonias hybrida) at a wetland area near my house, a species that isn't normally found in NZ, so the name was still running around in my head. None of the people at work can pronounce it so they tend to refer to it as "chinchilla doughnut" :D

I actually knew what it was soon as I saw it, being a birdwatcher! Whether I pronounce it right I don't know!

As for my own, I simply happen to be a fan of argus pheasants. (Hence the avatar as well!)

Just a palindrome! And I'm an okapi nut. Although it's inspired partly by one of my favorite Pokemon, Girafarig!

Very interesting thread! I particularly enjoyed learning how @vogelcommando's and @Nisha's usernames came to be. My username is just a reference to one of my favorite ungulates, the hippopotamus, and one of my favorite non-avain theropods, Tyrannosaurus rex. I also liked it because it sounds like it could be, even though it isn't (yet), the genus name of a dinosaur. Alternative usernames I considered include Tyrannovenator, Raptorex, Scythe Lizard, and Primal Instincts.

You should have Manatee Rex. :p

Mine is a tribute to the Smithsonian National Zoo's 71-year-old Asian elephant, Ambika. She's been the elephant multiple generations have grown up with; I came into this Earth the year she came to the US from India in 1961, so she's been a constant in the lives of my parents, me, and my daughter.

It's the genus of the California legless lizard species. Given I am a long time herpetology enthusiast, and I love California's natural history, it was very appropriate.
