First off i just like to say this is why I love this zoo. The zoo strives ever day to make this zoo better. It's incredible on what they can achieve. thks kudu21 for posting the awesome video and best to luck with the zoo staff and the new pair on breeding.

Thylo the sea eagles are located in Eagle Eyrie right across the way from the reptile house and above wildlife canyon. This exhibit is great for the birds. You get to see the birds at 2 different angles. above and below. it's awesome and andean condors are right next to them.
 
Kudu21, Moebelle, Cinzooman, or any other Cincy Zoo locals- Is the planned renovation of the Reptile House going to just be making the building look better as said in the video released by Cincinnati, or will actual reptile enclosures be updated as well? Cincinnati has a good reptile collection, but I must say, some enclosures in the current reptile house are subpar, and some are just awful.

Mmm I would only say maybe one or two could be considered awful, otherwise they are quite okay and some are pretty good. I'm scared for the results of this renovation, all he said was that natural sunlight would be able to shine through the building. Plus some of the exhibits have already been renovated to make them have natural looking walls but the sizes are just about the same, if not smaller. New substrate has been added to every exhibit though.

Some snake enclosures in this building are subpar, and that Chinese Alligator/turtle exhibit is absurd. Natural substrate is a small step to make the animals' lives better, which I appreciate, but it's still too small IMO.

Here's just a break down of it if you'd like.

Great/good enough: Gaboon Viper, Blue Tree Monitor, Green Tree Python, Madagascar Giant Day Gecko, Yucatan Neotropical Rattlesnake, Razo Island Skink, Pancake Tortoise, African Fat-tailed Gecko, California Kingsnake, King Cobra, Diamondback/Mexican Rattlesnake, Caatinga Lancehead, Beaded Lizard, Whiptail Lizard, Mamba, Milk Frog, Spotted Salamander, Cave Salamander, Ornate Monitor, Galapagos Tortoise.

Could use some work: Dumeril's Ground Boa, Nelson's Milksnake, Terciopelo, Brazil's Lancehead, Black Rat Snake, Rainbow Boa, African Puff Adder, Angolan Python, Aruba Island Rattlesnake, Black Milk Snake.

Work: Chinese alligator (I say this mainly because other people say so but I don't find it as appalling as others do)
 
Penguin Days, complete with two daily penguin parades and half-priced admission, run through February. Here's a video of the penguin parade:

The Chinese alligators have moved to Manatee Springs where they will live through the Reptile House renovation.
 
Nevermind they are in the American crocodile exhibit. It would be cool if they were to permanently live there, but only if they were from the Southeastern US.
 
Penguin Days at the Cincinnati Zoo. I wouldn't of thought the Malayan Tigers would be out but if they can keep them warm enough I guess it's ok.

The Victoria crowned pigeon chick is fully fledged and can now be seen out-and-about with its parents in the Australasian atrium.

Not really news, but having seen the Lowry Park Zoo's okapi calf on Facebook, it reminded me, shouldn't Kuvua's calf be due soon - if not already born?
