Chances are it was in London
I sincerely hope ZSL obtain a solenodon in the future , it would be incredible to see one.
He saw it at Frankfurt Zoo in Germany.

During the 60's / 70's ?
31st August 1973. I have always regretted that I didn't try to take a photo while it was active, but I had very little high speed film left after my tour through German and Swiss zoos (and I still had Holland and Belgium to visit). If there hadn't been a tarsier in the enclosure next door but one, I might have done so, but I wanted to keep a few frames for that (and the gorillas and the bonobos and the grey-necked Picathartes etc). When I returned later in the day it was not visible (I presume in its nestbox).

Not only a solenodon but a tarsier in the enclosure next door ! Incredible ! It must have been an amazing trip indeed !
I did see the solenodon in London Zoo's Clore Pavilion in 1967

Do you know what happened to that individual by chance ?
Sadly London Zoo's solenodon was only there for a few months. I was a child at the time and, unfortunately, after more than half-a-century I don't know exactly what happened to it.
I will try to find out more details.

You can still see a few zoos with solenedons in the hati/dominican republic area though.

Yes I know there is ZOODOM in the DR that apparently has solenodon on display to the public (?) but I dont think they are kept in any other zoo in the country and I definitely don't think there are any kept across the border in Haiti (Not sure Haiti even has a zoo actually).

Snapping turtles, not only do they weird me out they terrify me. One day I was on a walk in the forest and I saw a golf ball in a fallen tree, I got closer and saw a huge snapping turtle skeleton, I’ve been scared of them ever since.
In many ways, the weirdest animals must be tardigrades
